I am getting a 30 gallon tank soon and I don't know what to put in it. My current stocking is in my sig. I made a deal with mom that I will get rid of my 2 10 gallons to get a 30 gallon. I don't want livebearers. I'll do tetras, but not as the main fish. I would love to have goldfish again. I could have 2 in there. But I also love angels. And bala sharks. What would you put in a 30 gallon tank? Keep in mind that I'm not very experienced. I've only ever owned easy fish that are fairly hardy.

Defiantly not bala sharks !!!! They require at least 75 gallons. But you could do some more tetras or some more dwarf gouramis. In my opinion angels shouldn't be kept in anything smaller than a 55 gallon.

You can't have algae fish, goldfish, or bala sharks in that tank I'm afraid

4 guppies
3 platies
10 rasboras
1 dwarf gourami
10 neon tetras
6 ottos

You could keep one or two fantail goldfish in there, or some of the other smaller fancies like pearlscales, but not more than one oranda or ryukin as these are much deeper bodied. It's not ideal for common or comet goldfish, these really are built for ponds. I wouldnt house single tailed goldfish in anything less than a 55 gallon. They need so much room and SO much filtration. I have kept and bred goldfish.

I'm going to stock my 30 with the following. Feel free to copy me if you like.

2- Bolivian rams
6-otos
4-Molly
2-platy
10- harlequins OR 6-cherry barbs
6-8-kuhli loaches

I was looking at fantails, moors, and shubunkins. I am also looking at 29 and 37 gallon tanks. I saw one nice 55 gallon too. But I have to see if I have room for it first. And clear it with Mom.

This is my thread about which tank to get
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/385352-which-tank-for-2-3-goldfish/

But If you were to keep fantails then you couldn't add any more fish

I forgot to mention that. If I get goldfish, it will be 2 in a 30, 3 in a 40, etc. Somewhere on here I read that it's 20 gallons for the first goldfish and an additional 10 for each additional goldfish.

No. I'm rehoming all of the fish in my 10 gallon tanks and getting a 29, 37, or 55 gallon tank for goldfish. I haven't decided what tank yet. But I have to sell the 10 gallons so I have the money to start up the larger one. My gourami and harlequins are going to my uncle. The neons and that tank are going to a friend, along with some platy fry for her other tank. I have no idea what to do with my livebearers. I don't want them to go back to the store.
