sorry if i seem stupid or sumwhat lame, i tend to come across that way
We VERY recently got our first fish tank. We first populated it with neons after doing the cycling, taken care of for us by our friendly local LFS. We just populated it with a few more, including two very young bristle nosed catfish (they so cute :kana: )
The issue is that they will always hide, and i mean always, on the rocks that we have placed in with them. which is a real bummer cos they are sooooooo cool. Is this a phase due to their age (they are only 2 cm, and completely devoid of bristles), will they grow out of it, am i being pedantic :(

most plecs are nocturnal (damn the spellin u get the drift)

mine bnplec is nocturnal... where as my comman plec couldnt give a toffee what time of day it is... its out all the time...

i think it varys between plecs.

oh and if they are two males they could have a few tussles as they get older... mine did

I have one bristlenose and as first I hardly saw him. My lfs suggested some algae tablets and cucumber. At first it did not make a lot of difference, but in a couple of weeks things changed. When I put in the cucumber now he often goes to eat it withing minutes of being in there, (night or day). When I put in the algae tablet, at first he would try to get a bit but the other fish seemed to hog it and scared him away. Now the minute it drops in he finds it and latches onto it. If the other fish try to eat it he will bash them out the way and if I break it into quarters so its a smaller piece, he will suck onto it and swim it into a corner all to himself.

His charm has grown and grown as he has got more confident. :D I love him soooo much and would love to get another but my lfs recommends that you only ever have one in a tank (well a tank my size anyway). All the while they are young and small they will be fine together. :) But when he starts to grow they can become very terriorial and will fight :flex: with each other, so if you have two, watch out for that as they mature.

 great fish

Once they get used to their new surroundings they will most probably get a bit more daring. But, they are nocturnal so don't worry if you don't see too much of them. BTW, if you have females, their bristles will be very small, just a small smattering of them. But they are lovely fish and do a great job with the algae, but don't forget to feed them also.
