I have 3 apple snails that are eating my plants, and therefore need rehoming. I bought them from eBay last week http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:AAQ:GB:1123

I don't require anything for them, just really want them rehomed.

Let me know if you are interested. I'm sorry but I will not post them.

Thanks.

hi sarette,
i brought 7 of them too. the damage they done in a few days was unreal. they are lovely looking.if anyone knows what sort of apple snails they are would love to know.they are in a tank with moss only and they are eating that too.none of my normal apple snails eat plants. i also have zebra spixis and they dont eat plants like these guys.
if anyone can help that would be great.
thanks sue

Glad I am not the only one! They are destructive little blighters, am going to have to get some new plants once they are gone!

I emailed the seller and she wasn't aware they ate plants, and is glad I told her. She's sending me some non plant eating replacements, and assuming no one wants the gold and black ones, she's taking them back :good:

they are probably cannas, brigs are the ones u want that don't eat plants. www.applesnail.net has some good information about different types. I made the same mistake and now have a tank that can only have plastic plants. if they are cannas they get a fair bit bigger than brigs too.

Emma :)

Um they aint apple snails guys they are the dreaded pest pond snail lol!

There those horrible parasite snails that come in on plants like java fern and they reproduce a-sexually so once you got one,you get millions and just 1 or 2 will destroy a planted aquarium!

i know i got some in my tank lol
everytime i see one the little bugger gets picked out and thrown in the jamjar - to be transferred to mother in laws pond - she wants all my pest snails , ramshorns etc .

That person on ebay really needs something done about him it's not right charging people that much for those snails claiming they are apple snails (i could make a bomb :)

I'm pretty sure that those are apple snails or related to them, just not P. bridgesii. Pond snails shells are different, and they don't touch plants in my experience.

Whatever they are, the seller should have said that they will consume plants.

They are apple snails, but the plant eating apple snails. They have the lung and the trap door.

She's taking them back anyway :good:

i think they are from the same family as the apple snails. they come to the top like apples snails to take air.
i wasnt sure if theres differnet species of spixis i have zebra ones.mine are just over a inch now so i will let all know if i see eggs in the tank or above the water line and how big they get. the moss i but in the other is down is to half the size so no plants/moss.will have to eat courgette.

my other half bought me some of these! the damage is incredable! if anyone wants them. Im going to have to spend a small fortune replanting my tank the horrible little buggers.
