:D Hello ALLLLL :fun: I am investing in some Goldies. Which isnt a big problem I ready for the COMMITMENT!! My question is.....DUHN DUHN DUUUUUUUUUUUHN *drum roll* I just bought a 25 gal tank....and I want to buy 3 moors and atleast 1 shubunkin. Is my tank large enough for them? And would take up space adding a live rock? Oh :hyper: and if my tank is too small for that combination what combinations do you suggest. I really want either or and some other type of fish that is compatible with them!! :good: Thanks for your advice ahead of time!! :good:

Did you know that if your on about the Black moor i think you might get away with one as these I've been told can grow up to 10inch's and being a wide fish the tank will be way to small for three alone one and the shubunkin can grow up to 9 to 16 inches. But hope some one will come along that will give you more advice, in what fish your might be able to have :)and if my information is 100% right.

John.

That tank is only big enoygh for 1 moor, maybe two with very powerful filtration. Shubunkins will probably grow too big for the tank eventually. Why not get a 4ft tank instead if you are serious about keeping goldfish? Plenty of cheap ones 2nd hand on Ebay

Where to start...

-First of all, keeping shubs with moors is a BIG NO-NO. Being considerably faster and stronger than their fancy cousins, common (singletail) goldfish such as comets and shubinkins will not only grab all the fancy goldfishs' food but they are liable to beat fancy goldfish up. And lord help you if a common goldfish decided to mate with a fancy... someone will wind up belly-up and it won't be the common!

-Second, common goldfish are really not practical for aquaria at all. Shubunkins can get a foot long(you can double that for commons and you WILL need 40-120g per fish (depending on their adult size, which is really unpredictable). Pair this with the fact that goldfish are social fish and that equals about a 300g tank for 3 goldfish... might as well dig a pond!

-Third... as mentioned above goldfish are social animals, like budgies or pigs, meaning that they don't necessarily school but they like to be in groups of at least 3. Keeping goldfish singly is very unfair to them and is even illegal under animal protection laws in some countries.

-Fourth: As a general rule of thumb fancy goldfish need 20g for the first fish and 10g for each additional fish. An experienced keeper with lots of backup tanks may get away with 10g per fish but realistically you'll want 20g + 10 per fish. Also, you will need double filtration, meaning your filter needs to 'turn the water over' 10x per hour. So for every 10g you need at least 100GPH (gallons per hour) of filtration.

-Fifth: Live rock is for saltwater tanks you goof!!!

I strongly recommend if you want to get into goldfish that you save the 25g for a quarantine tank (or return it altogether and get at least a 40g tank (which gives you the bare minimum of 3 goldfish). Whatever you choose, good luck! Goldfish are by far the most rewarding fish and you'll be really happy you got into them!

I have some shibunkins and they are 10-12" - actually they are all that size except for one (which is smaller at around 6").
