Hey all

Thought I would just introduce me and my tank as u have already used the advice of several members.

Before this year I had never kept fish. My daughter wanted a pet fish just after Christmas so I decided to get a second hand tank and start.
I bought a 30ltr biorb and 4 platys and 4 zebra danios.
I quickly realised I had done a few rookie errors, I had washed the biorb and media in tap water be and set up tank, dropped in fish but very quickly realised that I hadn't researched and cycled the tank. I struggled to get my anomia levels down. I lost 3 fish.

Roll in 3 months, lots of research (although I have noticed, not enought) Bought a bigger tank that had been cycled and a few fish. Now have a great set up with 17 fish a zebra snail, 5 shrimps and (a shed load of Malaysia trumpet snails hence the not enough research)

Live stock -:
5 platy
4 zebra danio
3 penguin tetra
3 black neon tetra
2 pearl danio
1 zebra snail
5 shrimps
Unknown number Malaysian Trumpet snails

Parameters :-
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrate 20ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
pH 7.8

I'm really pleased with my set up and will post pics and journal when I can.
I'm not (at the moment) looking to build it up yet as wife thinks I have become slightly obsessed with the fish ?

Any advice given will be appreciated

Welcome! Really loving that nerite(?) snail in one of the photos. In the same boat as you by the way, got my first tank for Christmas and am honestly just trying to power through the mistakes I've made. Two tanks up and running now, fish doing well as far as I can see... It gets better. Promise!

When I bought the snail I did get 2 zebra shell snails but thought 1 died (it hadn't moved in 3 days) so binned it. I then bought a red spotted nertie but after a few days once again it hadn't moved and the guy from "pets at home" said if the trap door was hard it is dead - so I binned that too ?, headless to say after a bit more research I have figured that both them snails probably weren't dead ?.

What I learnt was "don't just trust the sales assistant, get advice from several sources"
