I start this tank a year ago with little knowledge and I bought the aquarium kit which came with a 17W 24" Fluorescent in a 30" Hood. I recently restarted the tank due to the tank being diseased by fishes bought from the local petstore. And I decided to start a planted tank. I have already posted in another section of this forum and got the necessary information except for lighting.

My tank is 29 Gallons and according to SuperColey1, from whom I have gotten good information, I am looking for 2x20W 4200K or 6700K for my tank. The problem is, a T5 or T8 system in the US is very expensive, over $100 and Retrofitting one is also costing me about $60-$70. I already have a hood.

So, what kind of system or kit can I build under $30 that will allow me to put 2x20W 24" fluorescents?
This is one of the solutions I found: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/317197-how-to-upgrade-lighting/page__hl__retrofit__fromsearch__1, how good is it, is it reliable? can it light light the entire aquarium evenly?
[Edit: you have to go down to Mikaila's post to see what I'm talking about.]

Thanks.
