forget the betta though, it will just fight and die/kill every thing else

My betta has never kiled anything or attacked any thing in it year and a half of being in my tank.

6 ghost or amano shrimp


I also am considering 3 cories, but I think the otos and shrimp would be a better cleaning crew, right?

The tank is 18 inches tall.

I want to build the tank around the angelfish.

Could I put any swordtails in there?

well. it would work. If you got a pair of angels, you might want some bottom dwellers, cos otos and shrimp are kinda 'everywhere' dwellers.

Ottos are great but I wouldn't add them to a newly set up tank. IME they will only survive when the algae is quite well established. You could always add them later
