29 Gallon Planted Tank

Do you use a power filter or are you running a canister? I've also noticed that the water level affects the amount of light that reaches the water, sort of obvious I guess. I get what you mean, I onlt have water sprite, and they are mostly in the middle. I put it there for the same reason. I know I can't get a lush garden like jimbooo's :D but looking at your profile, that's about how planted I meant. I'm getting java moss soon so I'll see how that goes and I'll keep you updated.

Thanks,
Isaac

I just got some amazon sword. Hopefully it'll survive. I left it in the pot that it came in. I also put it in the middle so it would get the most light possible. Should I try adding some fertilizer w/ iron? Because I've read that amazon swords need iron, or else they'll die

Griz, what do you do about the current that the filter produces? I have water sprite which is a floating plant, but I planted it, and it is doing great. However, I'd like to know how I can control the currents so that I can put plants everywhere in my tank.

Thanks,
Isaac

Hi IovaykInD, I were also worried about the current that my tank of anubias is taking... Since it's only around 15 gallon tank.

One of the leaf of the bigger aunbias actually is UNDER the part where water come out, and 3 leaves of that anubias having air bubbles under them all the time (since it's the places of air come out from air stones). Though So far that anubias have 4 leaves growing after arond 22 days in my tank.

:D Though seems really depends on how big the current your filter produces.

(this is just an opinion from a newbie)

Wow, it's been two days I've had my amazon sword, and I can actually see the growth. I took it out of the pot, but kept the thing that it was rooted in. I guess it'll survive since it's growing. Do you think I'll need any fertilizer since it's already growing? I want to get a picture soon since it's looking so nice. I can actually say my tank is a "planted" tank now. :D

I expect it will grow like crazy for a bit. They generally arrive pretty "juiced up" and don't really require it staight away. Look for root tablets that contain iron. (Although I think they all do anyway) Swords are known as heavy root feeders and will require fertilizer. Remember, you're better off using less than more. Especially in the beginning. I usually remove that growing media that they come in. I treat them as I would a plant in the garden when it comes to planting. Congrats and good luck. :D

Is that good for a fertilizer with iron? It says it has iron but I don't know how well it will do. Is it alright if I put one tablet where the roots are and not throughout the entire tank? It's grown a lot since I've gotten it. Two new leaves, and now a new one is coming :D I can't wait till there are baby amazon swords coming off of this one.
