I upgraded my a. sp winkefleck aquarium from a 29 to a 90; and alas that left me a spare 29. So..... I moved it downstairs complete with stand and decided to order some a. Sp D39; in the process i found a decent piece of drift wood in the closet so here we go for start:

The fishes in the aquarium are young mesonauta egregius. It will be 2 to 4 weeks before it is warm enough for the D39 to be shipped as they are being sent from a very cold area of the midwest.

This is some information about D39 which was found about 7 years ago:

The above link talks about a different species which includes D37 (which i would like); but in the middle you will find this paragraph:
"Besides some specimens of A. sp. ‘Kiemenfleck’, another new Apistogramma species has been found here. It has been named A. sp. ‘Alto Vaupés I’ (D39) and seems to be very closely related to A. personata KULLANDER, 1980. In contrast to the ‘Kiemenfleck’-Apistogramma which have exclusively been found here during the rain period, A. sp. ‘Alto Vaupés I’ have also been collected during the dry period. Besides the Apistogramma, species of the genera Carnegiella EIGENMANN, 1909, Hoplias GILL, 1903, Otocinclus COPE, 1871 and Corydoras LACÉPÈDE, 1803 have been collected in this place too, as well as some not further identified tetra and knifefish species."

D39 is in the bevis group which is in the trifasciata lineage. It is also a warm water fish near the equator so 78-80 range.

This leaves two species i would like a. lineata and D37 indria but that is for another day.

updated picture added a few buces; will add more plants in a couple of days as they just arrived:

This is a close up of one of the kids; likely young male. Will add more colour as he ages I'm sure.

Added a few plants; probably won't add anymore as these will fill up the area in 6 to 12 months:

Probably next update will be in 1 to 3 months depending on how quickly the D39 males colour up. They are actually quite nice as adults - you can see in the front right how come leaves are so effective as fishes will use them to hide et all.

Here is a better picture of a young male - he is approx 30 to 35% full grown so will colour up quite a bit more:

updated picture on the d39 aquarium. You can see a female on the lower right - next time i do a water change i'll wipe off the glass; but the aquarium will need about 3 more months to reach balance; the val is still adjusting and while adjusting some algae will bloom on the leaves it drops. The dither on the top is morse code tetra a rather nice fish (imho).

A few updated pictures of the aquarium showing how things have evolved - the d39 are no longer in this aquarium but the group is in a 20 long until i clean out a 65 for them; now i have a. elizabeth in here:

This is my brightest aquarium due to desire for the s. repens on the left front to grow well - last week i turned it down 10 or 15% and i hope to lower a bit more but i want to wait 6 weeks between down shift to let the plants adjust. The only substantial new plant is the hydro in the left back by the sponge filter so you can see how things have grown - oh and the red mongrow stalk on the right back corner:

The repens which is actually doing pretty well here - nice and healthy with new growth

One of the fishes sold as a. elizabeth - in case you are wondering it is not a lizzie but a bevis; this sort of thing happens when dealing with wc fishes.

a lizzie !!!

Now i don't know about you but i'd rather have a lizzie any day of the week over a bevis....

One of these days when the bevis takes a nap i'll snag it and remove it to a 65 - i got one of them napping but this one is just too smart for me. Smart fish dumb human.

Ok a bit of an update - as a recap this tank does not have d39 but a. elizabeth for now - this shows the full aquarium (the lights are a bit strong but for now i tolerate some hair algae to allow the s. repens to grow)

Close up of the s repens - you can compare it to the pictures from the last update to see it is growing though slowly. The bright light helps keep it dense and low.

Lame attempt at one of the female elizabeth

Lame attempt at a couple of more females

In theory i have 5 females and 2 males though i almost never see the ones that might be males. The large female is probably mature and she is a bit aggressive. I had a wonderful full size male but the brevis killed it - i have removed them and they are with the IB in a larger aquarium. The caveat of buying wild caught fishes is sometime the species is not as identified and sometime the batch is mixed species - i purchased elizebeth but received mix species in the purchase.

Hopefully the males will get larger before the female harms them ;)

I do have a set of D39 in a 20 long with a bunch of green neon tetra and maybe over thanksgiving i will clean out the 65 and fish them out of the 20 and give them the larger aquarium. Not sure of the mix of sexes as the 20 long is nearly impossible to view due to extreme density of plants/hardscape.
