I'm currently cycling a spare 25 gal tank I had lying about, dimensions are: L32" W12" H15"

Would this tank be possible to make a small malawi setup? I've always liked yellow labs so wondered if it would be suitable for maybe a trio of yellow labs with a few other malawis?

Any advice would be great as I've never attempted to keep African cichlids before.

Might be fine.... But don't mix species, it's a bad idea, you said you want a trio of yellow labs and that's fine if they are one male and two females, but mixing species in a 25 gal tank is only a recipe for trouble. Malawi cichlids declare terratories and usually large ones as well.

What would you suggest to keep with yellow labs?

Would I be fine with any other malawi cichlids? adult size depending of course

Sorry arobinson...... But with a 25 gal tank, you will only stay with yellow labs, sometimes even a 50 gal tank is usually not big enough for mixing many defferent species of cichlids especially aggressive ones like the mbunas.if you had bigger tank you can probably mix them with Malawi peacocks.

Thanks guys for the info.

I'll have to decide which way to go, I have a thread in the tropical discussion section as well giving ideas for a freshwater setup with unusual fish so may have to go that route due to the size of the tank, I though a small malawi setup would prob be wishful thinking

you could possibly do a small group of salousi(sp?). the males are blue with stripes and the females are yellow. also they are a dwarf species. maybe one male and 3 females, with alot of rocks in the tank.
