here's what it looks like on my previous 15gal tank.

another pic from the one i used before in my 75gal.

i sawn slits 1/4"inch deep on the pipes and an inch apart, you could also drill holes if you'll use size 3mm gravel. connected at the end is a sub pump(i use rio90). i cannot fully assure you that it wont clog your ugf but as for my experience, i haven't had one. i 've been using this filter system on some of my tanks for almost a year. your substrate serves as filter, you have to do weekly water change to take out accumulated dirt inside the pipes by suctioning them off from the tube.

thanks sam! i already scrapped this tank last month because i got tired of looking at it. but seriously i wanted to setup a new one.
