Hi guys !! I just get back from my vacation and I saw my 2 beautiful babies are sick

First Betta ( 6 month old)

He has a small constipation that I am threating right now,he already pooped a little bit yesterday but his stomak is still puffy. But he has another disease. One of his eyes are popped out and bigger than the other one.I alredy change the water for him and the eyes is getting smaller and smaller every hour. It's alredy get a normal size but his eye ball is cloudy..WHat should I do?

Second Betta ( 1 year old)

Ok this baby boy is very very sick and I am telling you he is seriously sick.He has a massive constipation. One side of his belly is huge...BIG...he lays on the bottom and never take breaths. His tail is bend in one side..He breath really fast like he been running alot..Also on his tail and belly his scales areup and when you touch him his scales feel like nidles. He won't eat, he move a little and everytime I have to put him up for air but I put him in a small container but he still won't take breaths,His stomak is white..Please help me..I am so scared for him..Please and Thanks

ok, for the 1st one keep the water crystal clear & hopefully the eye will clear in time.

the other doesnt sound good im afraid, the pine coning effect you are describing is the final stages of dropsy, which, can be in some cases treated with antibiotics but sucess rates are low.
reduce the water level to about 4 inches so he can reach the surface easier to breathe.
there is a guide to treating dropsy on google if you want to give it a go.
hope this has helped a little

Good advice there!
I dont think dropsy is eay to treat and your fish sounds quite bad now but as luke emma 23 said clear water and good water should clear up the 1st bettas eye! :good:

Thanks guys bud I am sad about my old baby boy..You can see how he stragling with his life :( but I don't know what to do :( Do you guys recomend me to put him to sleep or never give up hope?

to be honest i would recommend euthanisia
there is information on here on the most painless methods, i know it is hard hun and i dont think i would be able to do it myself but its probably for the best.
(((hugs)))

the best way is to use a sharp knife to sever the spinal chord between the head and main body, and then pith the brain area...the most humane painless way.

Found this on another forum... (not written by me!!!)

It's a hard thing to deal with, but sometimes there's nothing left to do for out finned but help them go quickly and painlessly. So heres a guide that I wrote up to help you decide if the time is right to euthanize your fish, and the best methods for doing it.

Signs that a betta will more then likely not recover and should be put out of their misery:

-Pineconing, their scales are sticking out and make them look like a pinecone. The pineconing is caused by fluid buildup underneath the skin, which is caused my kidney failure. Once the kidneys fail, there's really nothing else that you can do.
-Gaping open wounds, i.e you can litterally see through the fish, or exploding egg sacks (it does happen)
-Laying on the bottom on their side, not moving, barely breathing and they stay that way no matter what you do.
-Completely covered in fuzz, head to tail, then you have an infection thats so far go that you have no hope of reversing it.
-The fish is floating on it side and then suddenly begins spazzing and doing flips then floats gasping again.

Ways to Euthanize:

There is still ongoing debates about the best ways to euthanize a fish, I'll list the acceptable methods and the unacceptable ones.

Acceptable:

- First of all use clove oil before doing any of the following! Clove oil will put the fish into a quick, painless sleep, and they won't feel anything else you do.

- The most effective and quickest method involves taking the fish, putting him on a flat surface and taking a knife and removing his head (make sure to sever the spine first) This is a very tough method to use on a fish that you are very close to, I couldn't imagine cutting off the head of any of my bettas, or my other fish.

- Vodka, after you clove oil your fish, put them into straight vodka, this should kill them almost straight away.

The next to methods have a bit of controversy:

-Boiling, after you clove oil your fish, dip him quickly in boiling water. This will kill him almost instantly, and since he's already sleeping he won't feel a thing.

-Freezing, some people swear by this method, while others condemn it, saying that its totally cruel. Simply clove oil your fish and place him into your freezer for an hour or so. I would personally never use this method.

Non-Humane or unacceptible methods you should never use:

- Flushing a fish down the toilet will not put the fish out of its misery. Instead it will wallow in misery in sewage and harmful chemical levels for hours or even days.

- Dumping the fish in a local river or pond is not acceptible! Introducing non native live to any natural source is bad for the environment. You just might start an infestation

IMO the clove oil and vodka methods arent humane as they involve the fish going through a stage of suffering before actually becoming unconcious.

So you guys are recomanding vodka and oil? because I can't cut my baby or boil him :( I need unpAINful way that is quickly done because I will defenetly be crying :(

with mine i place if ever i have to do it which isnt very often
i put a container of water in the freezer until it's iced over on top - take out the glass break the ice out and then put them right into the freezing water - they die instantly

Sudden temperature change - colder
This method is different than the one mentioned above. Instead of putting the fish into the container then putting it into the freezer, we will first get the water in the container very cold. This can be accomplished in a couple of different ways. The easiest is to fill the container with ice (much like making yourself a drink) then put in very cold water from the tap. Let it sit for a few minutes and then your ready to use it. Another way is to put some water into a container then put it in the freezer. The goal here is to get the water as close to freezing as possible with out actually freezing it. Once you have your container of very cold water (using whichever method you prefer) simply put the fish into the water head first as quickly as possible. The shock of the sudden drop in temperature should kill the fish almost instantly. This method is not suggested for coldwater fish.

tahnsk I will think about it ,It's really scary to think that he will not be with me :( but thanks for everything everyone

you can keep trying to treat him hun
lower water to about 2 inches - make sure you accuratly measure the amount of water in tank before adding meds
remove him and try a couple of salt baths for him - dont feed for a couple of days and then when you do offer a pea - if he eats it starve the next day - if he dont poop then pea the following day - starve again next day and so on - i would try the salt bath and pea method first before giving up totally -
I would also use Myaxzin(spelling) meds for the 5 day course aswell as giving the salt bath

SALT BATH - use EPSOM salts -
Epsom salt bath can help release the build up of fluids caused by dropsy . Get a seperate container & add epsom salts DOSE is no more than a quarter of a teaspoon per gallon of water. *Remember to match the water temperature. Add the fish & keep a close watch for signs of distress as some fish will not tollerate it. Leave for a maximum of 15 minutes only.

being disabled myself its hard for me to get rid of a fish just cos it cant swim right - i cant walk right so should i die - so i know what you're going through

i own a betta that has a damaged swim bladder , one thats bent like a banana , one with hardly any lip - cos had bad case of fungus (all these taken on by me to give them a nice home) - i also have a glass cat with brain damage - cant stop spinning - but shows no stress lines and hs been like it now for approx 6 months - eats well
i only euthanise when there is no other option

aww thanks buddy for your support only this forum is answering for my emergency the other one I aske them and no asnwer yet :( Ok I just noticed his stomak got witer and on the bottom of the head where the gills are connected together they opened really wide and his breath is faster than usual.I never give up on my boys no matter how bad they look but I am scared because I don't want them to sufffer..: :( Poor Bobble
