Doing a regular weekly water change and gravel clean is not disturbing them that much if they are use to it. Chasing them around and catching them out with a net is disturbing them.
It comes down to how dirty your tanks is. If the tank is really dirty then do a water change. If it's not too bad and the female is due to give birth today, then wait a few days. But personally I have never missed a water change in tanks with pregnant livebearers. I just do water changes and gravel cleans every week and the females give birth whenever.
