Well how should I start, I went to my cuzins house for a party. I was checking his birds out and what caught my eye was these two cockatiels. They were in those Single parakeet cages. I dindt like what I was seeing so far. I was telling my uncle that I dont think he should do that to them cockatiels. I told him if he was gonna fin permanent homes he said no. So I offer to take them, dont know what came over me. So I have this two cockatiels with me. I go home put them with my budgies. Everything is ok so far. There hanging outside the cage with the branches. One of the cockatiels has its wings clipped but they didnt do it good. He has like blood around the edges. I have found out that one of them is a Lutino and the other is a Gray.

It has been 24 hours and everything is good. Im gonna train them starting with the lutino cockatiel. Im gonna keep a Diary of everyday the progress.

I wanna see if im good with bird training

Heres what happend today

November 14 2004

Got the lutino cockatiel grabbed him with a towel and see if he would bite me. And yes he did and hard took blood out of me. I wasnt gonna give up that easily on him. Later on grabbed him again gave him a treat of apple and sunflower seed. It looked like he was staring to trust me. Then today like at 8:00 PM He didnt bite me, he actually let me grabbed him.I was happpy I put him on my shoulder with Loca so she could get used to me. She didnt do nothing execpt whistle. Im giving her 30 minutes everyday. So far she has has stop hiding.

Thats all for now till tommorow.

Awww, so many good samaritans in here

Be careful with bird bites, I had a rainbow lorakeet bite me & I was puking for 3 days straight. Birds can carry some nusty diseases

You rock Joker! Definitely keep us updated.....and I want to see pictures of your new friends.

Thanks Everybody!

I will post pics today

I noticed yesterday he has a bald head might be that he was hurting himself.

I just really hope they can trust me.They came from being abused. :sly: :-(

joker...
are you planning on getting a bigger cage?
i commend you for saving the cockatiels but if you plan on keeping them perminantly,
then you should look at getting a cage double that size for the 2 cockatiels
the size you described in your previous post is good for one single cockatiel
without the other cockatiel or budgie
or ONLY a pair of budgerigar (budgies)
keeping them in too confined a space (even though they are better off then they originally where) is still hazardous to their health
how thick are your perches?
obviously budgies and cockatiels have very different sized feet
too small or to large a perch over a long period of time can cripple their feet
also, not enough space, in a cage can cause boredom, irritability, and stress over time
causeing even the friendliest bird to pluck, squabble (fight with other cage mates) and become timid, or overwieght
there are many other hazards aswell, listed above are just the tip of the iceberg

i'm not lecturing
i know your a mature and responsible person
i am only informing you of the dangers you have brought upon yourself by taking these birds into your home
you have saved their lives, yes
but in order to ensure a good quality of life and many years of health, i must urge you to find a larger cage
i'm sure you could find a nice used cage for very cheap

good luck :flowers:

Hey PK

I knew u would say something :D

Im probably planing on getting another cage but they seem to like how they are now. And to tell u the truth they dont like the cage much.. I have meade them a playland/gym on top of there cages and im working on another. Personally I dont like seeing birds in cages. I know my cage is a little small but its the best I can do. Then to leave them to die in a small cage. In my view birds should be free. So like I said they dont spend not even 80% of there time in cages. There mostly in the branches or in the swings. I will post a pic of my playland/Gym.... .

About The Perches

I have many size perches they go were there more comfy.

I have some big perches were the cockatiels feet fit in perfectly and were the parakeets feet fit perfectly. They go were they want they do what they want. I just got 30 dollars which is going to my birds only. im buying them some toys food vitamins. I would use the 30 dollars on a cage but u try looking for a large cage in a thrift store for less then 30.00. A new one could cause me over 80.00.

Thanks for ur concern about my birds Pointy Kitty....

Well training starts in 1 hour

I tried grabbing her right now but she bit me once again and drew blood...

Like I said above im not giving in that easy

Yesterday I was trying to learn how to trust me. Since she came from being abused... :-(

Im hoping today of winning her trust over and finger tame her....

Wish me luck.....

Well todays session is over

November 15 2004

Well today he bit me when i was teaching him how to finger taim him. Ne drew blood once again he got me right were my Nail is. I dint yell at him or nothing just said many profanities in my mind. He still doesnt seem to trust me. He doesnt wanna let me grab him. Were starting with the confidence booth. Then im moving to finger training. Right now hes a real biter. Bites realy really hard. We didnt do much progress today except him in a small cage with my hand inside. So he learns that my hand is not a threat. We will continue this until he gets it right and stops acting scared. Then we will go with the Alone Room time.

I got some snaps f him... :D
