i want to run 2 heaters on a 6ft tank, i have a couple of spare heaters but not of the same wattage, will these work ok together or is it best to get 2 of the same wattage.
Thanks Angel

i dont see why not, as long as they arent like 50w and 75w because they will be too small obviously, 300w and 200w or something would be fine though, the higher wattage the better on a large tank.

i look at it this way. two heaters are a good idea, they do however need to be of equal wattage. this wattage should, when you add the two heaters, just exceed the needed wattage. reason being if one heater goes on the blink, either staying on or not working at all, the tank will not get over heated, if the stat sticks and if the one fails, there is enough wattage to keep your tank, at least partially, heated. giving you time to replace the faulty unit. personally i see no point in having two heaters of the required wattage, for your tank size. i set both to the correct temp for my tank, i have had a tank nearly boil, well head towards 90, when a stat popped on my Juwel heater. making sure that could not happen, was my first job, the second was making sure my fish would not freeze, two heaters of this type were the only answer i could find.

ive had my heater go, eheim aswell hahaha, the stat got stuck in the ON position, i noticed at about 30C luckily, but i had to unplug the heater and plug it back in till i got my hydor inline heater, if i were you with a 6 foot tank, id got the inline route, its so much less clutter, and the flow going through them makes the heating of the tank very even.

i have a 1000ltr tank, and have two 300w heaters. I think it is better having something like that for tanks of that size.

Also, the best way I have found to clean the water, is to use a hosepipe from outside, I basically stick the hose in the tank, go outside to the outside tap, and turn it on for about 4 seconds, I then unplug the hose and the water backflows from the tank. I allow it to back flow till I am happy with the reduction, I then refill the tank back up by just plugging the hose back on the tap. This is cold water however with the amount I take out to what is left in, coupled with the two 300w heaters, does not make too much of a difference.

thanks for help, so i would be better off getting 2 new 250w heaters than if i use a 300w and 200w (tank is 110 gal) is that right
regards Angel
i would say two 250 would be fine, especially if you already have one, though i might go for two 200's myself.
