i will be setting up my new tank at the weekend and was wondering after seeing previous posts etc if 1 x 300watt heater will be ok or would i be better with 2 x 150 or 200watt heaters one at either end?

Two 150watt heaters then. That way if one fails or gets stuck on, your fish are less likely to boil/freeze. It may also pay to buy two different brand heaters.

any recomendations.... my lfs are selling renas at about £19 i think and fluval about the same. 1 of each?

would one of these work with a fluval external as they have large pipes....?

You can get different versions of the heater with different size fittings. I have the 200w version and i cant fault it.

The 200w has 12/16mm pipe connectors the 300w has 16/22mm pipe connectors so pick which one matches the tubes on your filter.

how about the rena heaters that attach to the intake pipe of the externals or fit inside tank.... are they anygood?

I hear they are good but a bit bulky.

Also if waters being heated then going through the filter... Id say the water would cool down slightly..
