IVe lost 2 platys in the last24hrs,last week i noticed a couple of tiny white spots on my platys tail but also nxt to it was like a piece of slime nxt to it,thinking it was white spot i treated the tank with the medication,i thought the platy with the white spot was getting better then yest morn seen the platy lying on the gravel and not moving much,i knew this wasnt a good sign, then when i got home from work, the fish was dead, when i took platy out of tank i noticed his fins were withdrawn and they werent like that yesterday(maybe other fish had been nibbling after the fish had died?)
Then today i get in and my other platy swimming in circles and is now dead too,i dont know whats going on,it cant be poor conditions cause do 25% water changes every week and clean gravel every 2 weeks,i also have golden rams in tank and theyre fine and if it was down to poor water conditions wouldnt the rams be the 1st in trouble, any help would be much appreciated!

yes,ph is between 7.5 and 8,and my ammonia is 0.25.my ph used to be 7

Your ammonia needs to be 0.0 Do a large water change 80% as soon as you get an ammonia reading then large water change again. I suspect the medication has possibly killed off some of your bacteria or the dead fish has caused some either way you need a large water change! :good:

As mentioned above, do a large water change. A 100% water change would probably be the best option in my opinion as anything less tends to be a complete waste of time in terms of ammonia/nitrite reduction.

Stick to doing your 25% water changes per week but also try to do a thorough gravel clean per week as well as you may have a build up of detritus/faecies in your gravel that needs to be removed much quicker to prevent a potential ammonia increase.

Your main priority at the moment is to remove all the ammonia as it is extremely toxic to fish when you have an alkaline PH. Google 'ammonia and PH' and how the two parameters interplay should be explained.

ok,i vacummed gravel last nite, and done a 80% water change this morn, and cleaned filter with old tank water, amoonia levels have dropped to zero,so does that mean i have to do another big water change or am i ok now??

i aint got a nitrite test kit, just ph and ammonia,i have a bottle of this nitrite reducing stuff, should i measure that in 2 tank?i noticed 1 of my rams rubbing its self off a piece of bogwood this morn, but that was b4 the water change, apart from that ,the fish look fine

i have 3 angels,2 mollies, 2 rams,3 glass cats,plec ,upside down catfish,3 khulli loachs and 3 guppies,170 litre tank,kept at 80of
