2.5 Gallon Mini Bow--suggestions?

I'm not sure how large they get? Adult shrimp of 1-2 inches should be no problem with a male betta as long as they have plenty of vegetation to pick through and hide in. Plus shrimp dart really quickly, a betta shouldn't be able to catch one. Tiny babies might be eaten, like baby cherry shrimp for example, but adult cherries, Amanos, Ghost and most likely bamboo shrimp should all be fine.

Apple snails are nice too and a betta can't hurt one. The most he'd do is flare at it

I'll check local stores....see If I can't find this "apple" snail lol. I know of other snails, but not sure about that one lol. I should have it all said and done in a week, so I'll post pictures of the setup? hope ud be curious!


I also wanted to ask, do you think the sponge in the filter u suggested is best, or that "current kill" with the soda bottle I saw posted on here for my type of tank?

You can always try both. I have never had to use either ,though if it were me personally I'd use the sponge as it's quicker, just cut to size and stick it in. Rinse it when it gets dirty and stick it back in again.

Good luck with finding an apple snail. I called everywhere. . .even the most highly recommended stores and NOBODY knew what I was talking about. I began feeling like a lunatic asking sales people about them, so I gave up.

They are usually known as the "golden apple snail" They're about the size of a pingpong ball, bright yellow shell pale cream body . There is also a plain dark green variety. I have one called Hubert Cumberdale II and he's a pleasing companion.

Nope..only mystery snails around here. But I bought a sponge to fit to size, and got a bottle. I'll figure try one, then the other, and both while tank is still empty but full to see whats what.

Seems the store doesnt either, naming it a "mystery" snail and all ...lol

Presuming this is just a big snail it should be ok I would have thought. If it's dark green with a big round ping pong ball shell then it's probably the green form of the apple snail.

mystery snails and apple snails are the same thing. just named differently.

Would Bamboo shrimp be ok in this tank size? I wanted a couple in my 36 bow, but Its fully stocked and I wont add anything else at the moment.... In your opinion...what would you recommend? I'm very indecisive lol.

Since it's been since 2005 since I had a male betta last, I think i'm ready to try for another one as the "center piece" my Boseami Rainbows in my 36 gallon give me plenty of activity lol. I think I read shrimp aren't good with males..so are bamboo shrimp out?

Have you set up your 2.5 gallon or purchased your fish yet? I just wanted to post to say I transferred my male betta with VERY long fins (double-taled) from his 3-gallon to a 5.5 gallon and he's having a much easier time getting around. Comparably my other male in a 2 gallon bowl with SHORTER fins is doing just fine in his smaller (heated bowl). If you have set up the smaller system, I'd recommend getting a shorter-finned betta (or even a female one).

Actually, no. I decided to go with my 12 gallon eclipse. Igot a beautiful Betta yesterday, and set it up with 2 julii cats. I think he loves it!!!

Thank you! I will try to get a clear pic later with a better camera....BUt, I know I got a sword plant in there, an umbrella, java moss, and I forgot the one in the middle, but they sell them at Petsmart over here. THe Julli corys have been by the betta, and vice versa, and they just leave eachother alone. i was actually thinking of putting the corys in my 36 community (where I have 2 albinos and a green corey) instead, and getting a snail or two for Masons tank instead....any suggestions? Mason is very active and swimming about. I got him from an independant LFS... Beautiful color!
