my boyfriend has a betta that has been moved from a five gallon with one guppy to a 2.5 gallon where he lives alone. it has a mini filter, heater, and some live plants but he still seems less active and unhappier than he used to be. he is lonely but we cannot move him back into the old tank since it is being occupied. can we get him an ADF or is the tank too small?

I am not sure about ADF, so wait for a second opinion, but I think they are ok in a 2.5. Just makes sure it isn't an african CLAWED frog. They get far too big :)

An ADF should do just fine with him

yeah i'm california and last i heard african clawed frogs are illegal here, so ADF's are all that is available

i was actually wondering the same thing - i have one male betta in a 3.5g and i'm wanting to get a couple of adfs (or just one) to join him...

let me know how it turns out :)

we're going on friday (i think) so i'll check back with you to let you know. i think its going to be ok for you since your tank is a gallon bigger than mine though!

Hey Synirr, I noticed in one of your photos that you had some snails with cone shaped shells. Can you tell me what they are? Do you have to feed them algae tabs or anything else or do they just eat trash and debris in the tank?

JoLtNbolt -- They're trumpet snails. I love them! They won't eat your live plants, but they do eat whatever food your fish miss and will clean up rotting plant matter (like dead leaves). They multiply like crazy, but stay burried in the substrate most of the time so it's not really a problem. Cool little cleanup crew to have around.

nino -- Be sure to cover every possible escape route on the tank once you get the frog... they're quite the little Houdinis when it comes to escaping! One of mine went missing several months ago, so I'm certain there's a tiny dried-up frog in my room somewhere :X
