I just set up a mini bow (2.5 gal) and I want to put a betta in it (Get him out of the bowl since its cold here at work for it, the ones i have at home is warm and doing great for months)

Aside from a heater and a thermotomer, is there anything I should add?

I have an air pump, but its currently not attached, since its noisy. is it really needed?

there is no filter, I'll do regular water changes, since thats way too noisy for my work place.

any live plants? anything else would be great knowledge.

my girl just got a mini bow 2.5 and there was a filter

For the 2.5G minibow that we have with Jack in it, we have gravel, a silk plant, a rock arch and a mini heater in it.
I ditched the filter. Just not worth it for a 2.5G tank, in my opinion and for the most part, they hate current.
We just do 100% water changes about every 4 - 5 days with him and he's one of the most happy and healthy boys I have!

The filter's kind of a sticky thing. From an ammonia and nitrite stand point, it would be best to use the filter as that is where a high percentage of your bacteria colony is. If it came with the Whisper 10 filter that most mini bows come with, it is very quiet. I have 3 tanks in the great room running those and you can't hear them. On the other hand, as already stated, some bettas don't like the current so not using it wouldn't really hurt except you would have to do your regular water changes. I think you mentioned it was at work. If you don't use the filter, you would have to make arrangements to have someone do your water changes if you take vacations longer than a couple days. If you were on vacation for a full week, I don't think you would want to go from one Friday till Monday week (9 days) without a water change.
