I lost most of my fish to callamanus worms a while back leaving me with 5 platy fry who are currently living in my 25l tank. Since then I have thrown out the gravel and everything from my filter so I can start everything again, this time with a little more planning!
I'm hoping to have some wood, a tall piece and a smaller flatter piece. The wood is most likely to be bogwood unless our LFS has other types available. If not I think I found another store which sells fake wood.
Plant-wise I was going to stick with silk plants as they are easier to care for, but I did like having real ones last time. I think it was amazon sword plants I had last time but I could be wrong. They grew a little too much but looked lovely in there. Are there any plants like those which dont get quite so big? Preferably no bigger than 16".
As for fish, I've had smaller schooling fish in the past, but I've always wanted some angelfish! The dimentions of my tank in cms are 80 x 35 x 45 (l x w x h) so it's not particularly high, but I've read they reach up to 25cm in height, so would it be ok to get some? I was thinking of having 2 and if they breed great, and if they turn out to be the same sex they're still beautiful fish! But would same sex angelfish still get along ok? Could I get a 3rd angelfish or would that lead to bullying and overcrowding?
I want some bottom feeders too! I've had panda garras before and loved them. They're peaceful, I never saw mine hassle any other fish and only grow up to 3" in length. I am hoping to get some again, but can't decide if I should buy 1 and get a pleco/catfish, or buy 3 panda garras. If I get a pleco/catfish it'll need to be one smaller than 6", the closer to 3" the better!
I'd be happy to leave it at that, although it would be nice to see some smaller schooling fish swimming around, maybe some harlequin rasboras? I'd only get 5/6 of those. Would that be ok with angels? Or will it be too crowded?
I'm trying so hard to prevent overstocking this tank and I know it will be a bit tight with angels but I really want some. Doesn't help that everywhere is telling me my tanks a different size! Some say its a 29gal, some say 30 and then others say it's a 33gal!
I have an external filter which is meant for aquariums up to 300l (more than double of what I have). The media I currently have for it is biomax, clearmax, ammonia remover and purigen. I intend on doing water changes weekly, changing 30l (approx 25%).
