The kelvin rating on a tube is far less important than the spectrum of light produced. If the tubes produces light in the red, blue and green wavelengths, then it doesn't matter what the K rating is, the plants will grow.

People get to hug up on the kelvin of tubes, when they should really spend the time considering the light spectrum produced.

Kelvin is more of an aesthetic issue not a plant growth issue.

Having the lights on for longer is the same as having higher wattage globes on for a shorter period of time.

I have to disagree with this.

I could have HC carpetting perfectly under 2WPG with a six hour photoperiod. Try HC under 1WPG and twelve hours and the HC will become leggy and reach for the light. Photoperiod length is no substitute for light intensity.

I have always found that my stems close up after about nine to ten hours under high lighting.

Dave.
