11" Cube

What size is your tank? I had dwarf rainbows In my 10 and I would never do it again, A fish of that nature deserves a big tank to show its nature best. 20gallon+ would be best in my eyes after observing them in my 10.
I've not seen golden danio's I'll look them up, I'd like to have some microrasbora or galaxy danio but I don't think they will suit this set up.

is that the galaxy rasboras? (the spotty blue ones?)
mine's 55 litres juwel rekord 60, as I have read rainbows grow to the same size as danios and are of about the same activity, maybe a little less nuts (danios are like fish on speed...seriously)
goldens are basically gold zebras, but real unusual and pretty I think :)
what sort of personalities do the rainbows have?
I have some tetra at the moment, but they have to go for fin nipping, they're getting replaced by rasboras, probably harleys or hengels.
Leaving only my betta and my pitbull pleco until the new fish are quaratined.....i'll feel sorry for my betta with no friends!

Rainbows are fascinating fish but they really need their swimming space since they're such powerful swimmers, they're boisterous, inquisitive and become really tame and seem especially aware of everything going on outside the tank.
Galaxy danio are the former galaxy microrasbora.
Golden danio aren't for me, they look ill. I really like glowlight danios. Glowlight Killifish might be a possibility, maybe even some ricefish.
It depends on what's in when I got shopping.

it would be a little under the 20gallons u suggested, my tank is 14.5gallons
I'm going to be planting it up a bit better soon for cover, particuarly for the rasboras who like plant cover.
Have you considered any rasboras or maybe barbs for that cube?
I like the look of a lot of barbs, green tigers are cool but for obvious reasons with my betta I can't afford to have barbs!

I had thought of barbs, Cherry barbs in particular, again I don't think any other barbs would appreciate a tank this small, I believe it tips the scales at just over 4gal.
Plant choice will probably dictate where I go with this tank, If all else fails I've a soft spot for neon tetra.

lol....is that for the colour??
I've found mine not only a nightmare from the fin nipping, but also that they're officially the most boring fish in my tank....lol....i do love their colours but that's as far as it goes i'm afraid

Not sure on minimum tank sizes, but gourami like simple set ups I've seen on here, but as I said not sure, even with dwarf gourami on size issue.

Maybe you should just get more addicted, get some white clouds or something, then make a giant cube.....40L or something...mmmmmmmmm

i love that sort of thing:

I hope to sell all 3 tanks at some point and set up a 4x2x2 rimless braceless, open top with metal halides, that will be in the distant future though, If all goes to plan I'll be going to uni and will only have room to take the 10 and the cube.

mmmmmmMm....rimless tanks are something i like admiring on here too.....room's a problem for me too, only live in an attic flat....so can't endlessly have fish tanks....shame really....good job i am currently job hunting (uni aftermath) and have not the money either to buy more....else i'd have one of those aqua qubes!
Seriously though if I could make them, I bet there'd be people to buy them! :good:

Have you seen my 10? that's rimless and bracelss, I'm in the loft too so I'm limited to the number of tanks I can keep and what size.
I'm heading to uni to train in architecture, so when I'm done and employed I plan to build my own house with a takishi amano style huge tank.
*day dreams*

lol...glad to know i'm not alone in the attic.....wow are you doing one of the 7 year architecture courses? I just did 3 years of illustration....and now have the lovely loan hanging round my neck :p

that sounds awesome though.....houses with purpose built walls of fish tank, and that kind of thing, bet your the kind of person who builds themselves one of those coffe table tanks ;)

(ps: love the drawing!)

i would like to be an architecture....
is this the same tank you asked a question about and you bought them landscape rocks if you can remember or is this another? It will look good if every thing goes to plan!

Aaron, I'd like to be a building too ;). Yes this is the other tank, and the rocks are 4 of the 9 or so remaining landscape rocks. I might change the wood If I can find some that is, I'd like the sticks to break the surface.
Holly, yes, I'll be doing 7 years at uni but the starting wage far out weighs any disadvantages in my eyes.
Imagine an Iwagumi coffee table! that'd be off the charts.

that's fair then....not like the rest of us sillies who come out and then can't find jobs...lol, we'll get there!
mmmmmmmmmmmmm iwagumi coffee table would be soooooooooooooooooooo pretty!

isn't that gorgeous??

Makes me wanna turn my main tank iwagumi now :p can you have iwagumi and still keep bogwood??
Might be hard finding plants low enough for a 30cm high tank though :(

My 10's only 30cm high, plants like glosso and HC are fine in tanks this low, hairgrasses too.
Not as far as I know, Iwagumi is based on rock formations from ancient oriental gardening, zen gardening I believe.
You could try, but I don't think it would look very good.

*ponders*
maybe i'll have to use it as an excuse to plan further tanks ;)
Think I might save up and get an aqua qube, maybe the smaller 25 litre one :)
I do love those long, low lying tanks, just be a room issue lol!
I'm gonna start doing some reading up on iwagumi though, maybe the tiny tank could work on a very small scale iwagumi, might get some hairgrass anyway for the main tank, thicken the plant look up a bit as well as getting some longer plants for the rear.
Still need to get my card for blacking out the back too, bring everything forwards!
