10gal Shrimp Tank!

Thanks loraxchick, that makes me feel a bit better about them dying now.

Small update... went to Petsmart the other night and bought some corkscrew vallis. Wouldn't have gotten any, BUT! I saw a great looking ramshorn snail on one of them that I HAD to have! lol
I felt like such a dork.. getting all excited over it :p heh
Also got in the plants I ordered off the net today. Put the Vallis nana in to the shrimp tank and that was it. Going to wait and see how well the petsmart vallis does and if it does well, then leave it as is and let it spread throughout the tank.
The nana stuff seems a bit on the bleh side, but hopefully it'll get better b/c the shrimp seemed to REALLY like it. Planted it, looked over and 4 of the shrimp were on it.
Also got in the Hikari Crab Cuisine food today.. tossed in a couple of them, shrimp were fighting eachother for them! So I guess they liked it heh

And *nodnod* All seems ok so far. :D Can't wait to get some bebehs!

So yep.... photos!

Shrimplets new tankmate. Would love to get some red one eventually

Thank shot. Still full of tannins, but I actually really like the way it looks. Gives it a bit of a more natural look. The vallis looks a bit scraggly, but hoping it'll fill out :)

EDIT:
Can you use iron in a shrimp tank? I know copper isn't good for shrimp, but not sure about iron?

Small update w/ photos.
A few of the females are carrying eggs now, and the rest have that saddle thing going on, woo! heh
So hopefully in a few weeks I'll have baby shrimp! yay!
The vallis in the tank is doing ok. Not growing very quickly. Think that's mainly b/c I've only been dosing once a week. It's not dead though, so that's good heh.

dont feel like a dork for being excited about your ramshorn...i love snails too :hyper:
and the valis will fil in...just give it time. i love your shrimpies and new snail!!!!
keep the updates commin!

Good to hear that the female's are carrying eggs.

What's your water quality. Vallis tend to like harder water with adaquate calcium and disolved minerals. My vallis grows like a weed, but then I live on a pile of coral rock.

I have no idea about water hardness or anything. I have to buffer our water with baking soda to keep pH from crashing so *shrugs*
I should probably be dosing twice a week, but the plants seem to be ok so far. Slow growing, but ok nonetheless :)

Oh here's a photo of the Stewie-nator..... he's so pathetic... and cute :p

If you have to buffer with baking soda, then your water is soft. Mine is liquid rock.

llj

PS, cat is cute :)

We have babies!! Noticed 3 of them so far. They are SO tiny. I'm gonna be afraid to do water changes now.
I really need to though... for some reason there are planaria ALL over the place. Think I've been a bit overzealous when I feed them, so going to cut that down to every other day.
The plants in the tank are doing ok. Not fantastic, but ok.

Congratulations! But I'd take care of the planeria problem. Do the water changes, just be careful. I have had my fair share of fishies take the express tunnel! :hyper: Catfish especially love to take this trip. I told you, stupid catfish.

LOL....
I did do the water change, but then had to stare in to the bucket for a good 30mins or so and fish out the teeny tiny shrimp that I had sucked up. There are a bunch of them now. Various sizes, so I'm sure some of the other females must've had their eggs hatch.

As for the planaria, the water change got rid of a lot of them. No problems with them atm. I do think it was just b/c I was overfeeding. I've cut down on it and no problems yet.

Wish I could take a photo of the bebeh shrimpkins.... they're SO tiny.
