So my girls are completely happy with their tank.
I am not.

When I have the filter going so it creates enough surface agitation to keep the yucky slimy topcoat of film off the top of the tank, the girls are cranky because of the current. I decided to shove some filter sponge into the intake tube, but to get it to the point where they swim around happily and play, and not get blown all over the place in their tank, I have to put sponge in that covers the entire opening of the intake tube. Which, I would assume is not good because then with all the water that comes thru, everything gets stopped up in that piece of sponge. And, the surface agitation is so slow that the film buids up across the top. AND... I"m worried with this slow movement in the water that the cycling process would take forever.

Should I just pull some of the sponge out of there and let them get blown around? or what? Ooooh why is there never a simple answer for the "filter and the strong current" issue?!??

Is it a filter with a variable outlet - so you can wind down the flow.
Mine allows me to set the flow rate down low or up high.

I heard you could try some panty hose or something but I'm not sure.

I used to use the foot part of the nylons cut off and wrapped around where the water came out. Worked really well, but looked ridiculous. Now I have a piece of sponge (like the ones you refill with carbon, only it's empty) cut in half and fastened with a twisty over where the water comes out. It is doing an AMAZING job! Not only does it cut back on the flow/oxygen coming out, but it leaves a good bit of circulation and gets rid of surface scum! :kana:

i just leave my 10 the way it is, just give them places they can get out of the current, i have a male in a 10 gallon with a heavy current and he just wedges himself in a plant when he wants to rest  i think the current is good for them too cause he's the biggest betta i have so fighting the current made him nice and strong :flex:

My girls are in a 96 litre tank with two fluval 2+ internal filters blowing the water around like a washing machine and they are absolutely fine :fun:

I have plants in there where they can go to avoid the current, but mostly they like to swim in it
