can someone explain what half planted full planted and all that means

sure, half planted tends to mean a fish tank with a few plants in it.

ie you've got a standard tank, plain gravel with the odd sunken ship etc... and gone to the fish shop and bought 2/3 plants and chucked them in the tank.

the plants are alive but not thriving.

fully planted is where you have added a specific plant substrate, upgraded lighting, added co2 injection, have to add fertaliser every other day, spend 4 hours pruning all the new growth every weekend and generally dont have much of a life outside the fish tank room!! (sorry gang you know i'm making sence)

my tank in the early days (semi/half planted)

make sence?

I must be fully planted then  I spend most of my mornings before work now either testing water, adding stuff to water, reading about what to add, reading about plantsm buying plants, making my current plants look good, or pruning the plants I have :p

I am dreading pruning this weekend....I have started the E.I. this week and my plants have really taken off....so ya, 4 hours pruning sounds about right

Sorry to hijack....

jimbooo whats the moss type plant called on the second picture.

thanks

It's called Riccia.

Need a decent amount of light and is actually a floating plant. I hold mine onto some stones with a hairnet.

Looks great.

ok thanks, i have a jewel rio 180 with 2x 30w tubes, which in my estimation is 1.5 wpg so i guess i should leave this alone.....

Yeah that's not enought to keep the Riccia happy.

Here's my tank, you can see the Riccia at the front by the large piece of slate, unfortunately it, like most things, has algae on it at the moment so the colour is a bit off.

I'll be adding more "algae busting" plants tomorrow.

Bit of a funny angle, but the camera on my phone can't handle the light from the tank at the "normal" angle.
