Well my boyfriend bought 2 oscars a couple months ago, against my knowledge of knowing how big and agressive they are because of all the stories I have heard. Although he is a typical guy thinking that agressive fish would be wonderful and fun to watch  . Well now we are stuck with two growing VERY fast fish and I have asked before and been told that they need a 100 gallon tank for them both. We are looking at some of them and trying to find a good deal. Does anyone here have a good website they know of that sells filters, tanks and heaters..ect... for a good price. Oh also he lives in LA,California, does anyone know of any great fish stores that live near there. Thanks :) Oh also any advice on oscars would be great. Foods they like to eat ect. Thanks everyone!!!

Ok, I did the same thing knoing very well what would happen. Well my oscars were in a 20 gallon tank for a few months i have two. They are both friendly with one another i got very lucky you might not be they are aggressive if they are not a pair. Well anyways I recently purchased a 125 gallon tank from Petland along with two filters and two heaters. The whole thinig cost me $800.00. With that said I also got free gravel and $100.00 knocked off the price because i took the floor model. So i saved about $150. I found Petland to be the cheapest with tanks after checking 5 local stores. Good luck, Be warned a tank that size will put a nice whole in your pocket.

I bought my tank, stand, filter (rena xp2), and heater at PetSmart all for 500$ which i thought was a good price. Its a 46 gallon bow front tho not 100 gallons.

I don't think there's Petland outside NY/NJ metro area. For small stuff (filter, lights, heater, etc.), I get it from big al's. You could also look for used equipments on classified section.

Oh definitely!

I didnt know that, Thanks. Hmm I will take a look at your link for other then petland needs. Yeah tanks are a good thing if your looking to spend tons of money.

Thanks for the replies. I have always wanted a bigger tank to have lots of smaller fish that live well with each other to watch and take care of, but I suppose my boyfriend ruined that idea  . Haha, he is lucky I love him :p . Although I was thinking if I could talk him into selling them .... lol. Ahhh but thanks for the fast replies everyone I will look at the website suggested. What are the top brands in filters and such for big tanks? I am having a hard time finding what type of watt heater I should use for a 100 gallon.

I think i have two 200 Watt for my 125 and they are fine. You should buy the tank then tell him to sell them so you have a reason for buying the tank, Then stock it with some nice Community Tropicals Some Neons would be nice.

I have a 100gal stocked with nice community tropicals!

It's a Juwel Rio 400 and I got it stand included for £600. The filtration wasn't enough so I then spent an extra £70 on an extra filter.
Go round your lfs's and ask how cheap they can do a 100gal for, say that you're going round all the shops and they'll lower the price usually.

The price of your tank does sound reasonable, but if that's the case, the Petland nearest me is totally ripping customers off! They have absolutely unreasonable prices for their tanks! Last time I was there they wanted $7 for a used bare-bones 10 gallon with a HUGE crack down one entire side... yeah right! You can just go to Walmart and get a new undamaged 10 gallon for $10!

Anyways, I got my 80 gallon at Petsmart. It was about $500 total for the tank, stand, heater, and light hood. I had to buy the filter separate for another $200, but such is the price of love
If only my oscar knew how much money I've spent on him.

BTW, I totally recommend keeping the oscars... they're grow on you for sure. They're like underwater puppies!

Yeah, oscars haave quite a personality, they'll even take food from your hand, and you can scratch their chin :)

Man, a 100gallon community tank would be my dream, but the tank maybe bigger than my room

All the best,
-Aku
