Well, I know the numbers best in ppm and dKH since thats what my test kits read

Typical "good" readings of those chemicals are:
Calcium: 400-430ppm
Alkalinity: 10-11dKH
Magnesium: 1300-1500ppm

I only dose to bring values back up to those levels slowly. Otherwise if they're within those ranges, I leave a good thing be

Ok sounds good. Ill probably get the salifert kh/alk test and the salifert cal test.
Will i need the magnesium test aswell?

Quick answer? Probably not. If you really start getting advanced in the hobby you might want to buy one, but for the time being, I wouldn't bother
