Well I have a 10 gallon fry tank that I would like to turn into a planted tank. That is because all the fry are grown up and I don't have to cycle this tank since it has been running for a year now. So far in the tank I have no gravel. Its bare bottom(since it was a fry tank). Also it has a glass canopy. Also a sponge filter. I am planning to upgrade my sponge filter since I am starting a planted tank. That is all the tank has so far. I am planning to buy all my supplies for my tank through drsfostersmith.com. I will post a list of what I will be buying below with a link of the item.

Aquaclear 20

All-Glass single tube strip lights(they come with a T-8 bulb)

Grasslin Timers

12 lbs. Flora base

Both the Flourish Enhancer kit and Fundamental Kit

6.5 inch Aquatic Tissue Scissor

Well this is my list of all the supplies for my 10 gallon planted tank. Do you think its to much if I buy the Flourish Enhancer kit and Fundamental Kit. Also I am not planning to buy a CO2 system because of the type of plant substrate I will be using. I have no definite list of the plants I will put in this tank yet.

Comments would be much appreciated.

filter's good, but I think the lighting is a little low, though you are not having CO2 (but I highly recommend you do...) I actually have this substrate in my nano and it releases nutrients into the water (though I still use a Nutrafin kit and Flourish Excel...) Everything else seems to be pretty good however...

Good luck with the tank!
Well I am planning to add a CO2 system. But later on. I will add a CO2 system later on. This is the CO2 system I am looking at right now.

Since its a 10 gallon I am not buying such an expensive CO2 system.

About the lightings you are right. 15 watts is not even 2 watts per gallon. So here is the new lighting I am looking towards buying.

20 inch Single Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixtures

I think you will find that you will be a lot happier if you go with higher lighting and a little co2 or at least excel.
That light(the little one) won't grow much of anything. I have it. It didn't even grow water sprite well, and that is pitiful. It grew, but was really stringy looking. :good:

The second light looks good to me.
Most people on here use the nutrifin kit. I don't know anything about the one you picked.

Thanks for the advice with the lighting. So how much watts do you recommend? Also I have a lot of liquid supplements for the tank. I am using Both the Flourish Enhancer kit and Fundamental Kit http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod...p;N=2004+113221
I am adding a CO2 system. The one that I mentioned before.

That link didn't work.
I personally don't think you will need that much stuff to begin with. The substrate will add to the water too so you probably won't need all of that. I would just get maybe the fluorish and trace. Then see how it goes. You can always get the others later if you see you need them. A lot of that will depend on what plants you get and how your co2 works out...
Sounds good though so far. :good:

Have you considered EI?

Thanks for the help. I will probably just buy 1 or 2 supplements to help the plants.

When you pick what plants you want to have and all... post and some of the more experienced can give you some info on what you might need for them.
Good luck :good:

Thanks for your concern with the plants I will be buying. I am very experienced in planted tanks. I maintain a 150 gallon amazon tank for a client of mine. He has many plants in the tank with many fishes from the amazon. But the thing is this is the first planted tank that I would own. So I want as much advice as possible. I want everything to go right. I am going to invest a lot of money in this tank.

Well with all my economic situations going on right now there is no way for me to set up this tank right now. I am going to invest a few hundred of dollars into this tank, so I can afford it right now. So I am planning to set it up in the summer. So from now until summer comes along I will be planning the most possible for this tank. I am also glad to say that I will be getting a lot of free plants when I start the tank. That is because a friend of mine who I maintain his 150 gallon planted tank will be giving me some of his plants. He said it is fine with him, seeing as I maintain his tank and his tank is the way it is today thanks to me.

So I have come up with some new plans. I am planning not to use a hagen filter but a better filter. I am looking at a Eheim Classic Canister Filter. The Eheim Classic 2213-37.

It should be fine for a 10 gallon seeing as the gph is only 116. Also it is great for a planted tank. I will be posting up changes with the tank until the final date comes for me to start setting it up. Also do you think that using this eheim filter is fine?

The Tetratec EX600 is much cheaper and IMO better. Looks good too and is dead easy to setup.

Review are good as well.

The 20 satellite light looks good but the blue acentic light isn't really for plants....it'd be better to go with a 6700k growth light.

Old thread. BURN!!!!!

Ever watch "That 70s Show"? There was a "burn" episode the other day. :)

Seriously, sometimes this happens. Especially since we now have that "similar threads" function.
