You could go with a few otocinclus, they will help with the algae, however you should feed them peas, because you can't just give them the algae to eat. The betta's should be ok with them. Other people can give suggestions as well.

For your smaller tank, how big is it? In general, ghost shrimp can live in a relatively small tank but I probably wouldn't keep them in less than 3 gal either.

Are your bettas male and female, or two females, or two males? Of these combinations, two females would be the "best" combination, but as has been mentioned bettas should really be kept by themselves since they are not very sociable with other fish.

I ended up buying a fluval flex 9gallon. I believe the bettas are male female. I plan to buy a CO2 system this weekend. I would like to go with a fluval kit. Any suggestions?
