I want to keep a dwarf lion in a ten gallon tank is it ok. I think it will because he is going to be the only one in there.

Far too small IMO.
Its not the size of the fish in this case (which i still feel is too small) but the amount of waste they give off. Lionfish are messy eaters and also breathout alot of ammonia. Liverock may not be enough in a tank this small

Ah, I would rethink what you are wanting to do. You have to remember that a ten gallon is a nano, and your wanting to put a fish that belongs in a 75+ gallon home in it.

its not a regular lion it is a dwarf the biggest they get is 7 inches the other lion gets fifteen inches long plus with my heavy filtration on a ten gallon I think it will be fine the filter is a wet dry pengion bio wheel 125 thats enough were it will turn the tank over 12.5 times per hour plus live rock I do realize that they are dirty fish so 30% water changes avery two weeks should do the trick.

Hm. i still dont think its enough. 30% every 2 weeks is nly slightly more than i used to do with my old 40 gallon tank (20% every 2 weeks).

Marine fish create amoonia constantly throuugh their gills. lionfish are no exception, 10 gallons even with a bit of extra filtration is simply not going to be enough IMO.

10 gallons is simply too small in volume and will change conditions very fast. 75 gallons is not recomended because the fish swims alot, its because the tank has time to build up higher bioloads etc and give the water a more stable set of conditions

Its just not a little its a lot a bio wheel can provides as much as 30,000 times more oxygen than any underwater biological filtration. More oxygen means more beneficial bacteria. They use bio wheels on most MARs or commercial units.

Lionfish can NOT IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM be kept in a 10 gallon tank. Sw tanks are so much different. filter is not good enough for a sw tank. U need a skimmer which filters much better for lionfish who are incredibly messy. U can not keep even half as many fish as u can in fw. Lionfish need room to swim at night and they cant get that in a 10 gallon. believe me, ive been researching these things for like a year in preparation of getting a pair for my 55. Go on any sw only forum and u will be told the same thing but about half as nicely as here.

I'm going to put a bio-wheel 125 on it along with liverock.
a biowheel 125 goes on a 30 gallon tank. For it to be sufficient enough for sw it would need to be a model for a 200 gallon tank.

what that doesn't make any sense for a pump from a 200 to go on a 10 gallon tank thats almost like hooking a pool pump onto it those are extremely big pumps.
And I don't like protien skimmers the fish and corals in the oceans don't skim it I know there is mud in the ocean but I believe the fish live in water that does have protien in it. I especially don't like skimmers on a reef system because all the trace elements you put in the water the skimmer will take. therefore the inverts wont get the elements.

i meant tha the equivalent of filtration on a 200 gallon tank is about the equivalent to the filtration u need for sw tanks. Also yur personal preference doesnt matter to the lionfish. It will DIE with no protien skimmer. Dude just trust me on this. U cant keep a 7 inch extremely messy fish in a 10 gallon tank. a 10 gallon is about 20" so the fish would be almost half as long as the tank. go on Reef central or saltwaterfish.com and post this. U will be laughed at i guarantee it.

who said it was going to get 7 inches in my tank thats the max size they get in the wild he will probaly not get bigger than four inches.

Really, we are not trying to be jerks, its just that what you are wanting to do has "Dead Fish" written all over it. Good luck if you try it, but its not looking good from the start.

Well you did ask for our opinions and a number of us have said that we would not entertain the idea. Of course you are entitled to do what you want with this information, abide by it or ignore it as its entirely up to you. What you must consider is this.. you might get lucky and the lionfish will surive in this small tank but there is surviving and thriving. I would not want to keep any animal that is living merely an exsistance rather than showing its natural habits when its feeling stress free.

And on another note....

The ocean does skim. In fact you can see it almost every day when you are on the coast. This happens on reefs as well as coastlines. The action of the wave smashing on rocks causes tiny micro bubbles to suspend in the water. Protien attaches to it and this rises on the surface in the foam of a mily brown foam. The sea breeze usually blows this foam up and away inland where its absorbed back into the land.

This is why its not usually recomended for people to use natural sea water near the shore as it is usually high in nutrients and the constant bashing on the rocks does the same action as a skimmer. Ocean rocks and coastines is natures own protien skimmer.

no 7 inches is the size that they DO get in an aquarium. Also if u stunt it then its internal organs keep growing and KA-boom. Just listen to us. Do u think maybe we know what we're talking about have u seen Ramjets and NAvarre's tanks. Yeah theyre pretty successfull. If u try this the fish will die and u will probly also get stung in such a small tank.

why did u post this if u arent going to listen to anyone unless they say yes u can keep a lionfish
