i have a 10 gallon filtered tank with a dwarf red platy, 3 glowlight tetras, and a small cory. I have 2 males and a female betta , and i was wondering if i could put my bettas in there. would the 2 males fight? if i put in a male and a female would they breed of fight, what about all 3?

Thanks, Mark

You bet the males would fight! And males and females should never go together except during spawning. Don't put any of them together, you'll end up with dead fish. You can try putting one of them in the tank, but there's a possibility the betta will attack the platy and the tetras might nip the betta's fins.

If you're set on putting a betta in the 10 gallon, I'd try the female first because of the shorter fins... BUT my advice would be to get a few more platies and two more cories. They're group fish and shouldn't be kept alone.

i had more platys but i went out of town and my parents forgot to feed my fish so only the fat one survived

OMG. . . what is it w/ ppl wanting to put 2 male bettas together?? Or a female & a male?? This is the 2nd thread bout this!! argh!

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to vent my frustrations out on your thread Bigfrog but I'm getting more than frustrated w/ this one question.

You would think that if bettas went together they would put them in one gigantic tank at petsmart or something right? But they don't - they put them in individual cups. . have you noticed that?

I'm aware that some ppl are newbies and are researching bettas - but that's what the pinned threads are for. .

I'm sorry - maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the betta or maybe I'm just a big fat snobby bi-atch, but I'm just tired of seeing these threads.

i'd just like to say that i keep ( and have done for 2 months) a male betta in with 7 females... all live quite happily in a 24x 15x 12 tank with no murders bitching or hair pulling.....

That sounds like a timebomb to me. Good luck with that.

sorry, im not new to bettas, i was told by others that you could with a tank like that, but i highly doubted them anyway. I diddnt think i could, i was just checking because my friends are stupid

i would have thought that if anything was going to kick off it would have done by now. I have my partioned 2ft tank cycling now for all my males to go into, along with the ones im about to order from Joby. I sent payment for my IAL last night so that should be here by the weekend all being well.

HAPPY DAYS !

Not quite, my female was fine with tankmates for 3 months, before she suddenly began slamming their little bodies into the bogwood. :/ Others swear their bettas were fine for years, and then one morning awoke to find many of their tank occupants dead. *shrug* It's your tank, best of luck to you and yours.

I've heard ppl doing this - putting a bunch of bettas together - but I'm not going to try it even if you testify that it's worked for you.

I'm w/ Soritan on this one - timebomb - kaboom! Plus you know that most are my bettas are my babies and if they can't get along then they're not going in the same tank.
