1 Of My Tanks

lets see...

tiger oscar
parrot
4 sd's
3 albino cory cats
maybe a pink con in the top left corner? or maybe a kissing gourami?
and of course the big beautiful bala

Word of caution, when the o gets full grown, your cories might turn into snacks as o's are notorious for putting anything into their mouth that can fit

looks nice, a few other criticisms but nothing that will cause any problems so I'll just keep them to myself :good:

Yer i am thinkin of moving them to my other tank soon. when i can be bothered to catch them that is.
yep you got most of them! 2 parrot fish, theres another bala in there, 3 more dollars n 2 plecs. the foto is not too good! please let me hear your other criticisms lol

thankyou. i have always thought about getting 1 just dont have a clue what to go for have tried a few in my other tank and they end up being a waste of money! any reccommendations?

for a background... acrylic paint works best for me. I have both of my tank painted black. The paint will stick with no problem to clean glass and gives you a flawless flat background. you can paint whatever color you'd like, but most go for blue or black (IMO black makes the fish pop and stand out more)

The balas: idealy wish to be in school of 6 or more for safety and are very active and skiddish fish. your 400l may not be big enough for their activity level and for their full grown size (10 to 14")

The sd's are will also get big too, the size of small dinner plates (6 to 8" around in some cases) and they will need lots of room as well.

Plus your o needs a 75 to 90G tank by itself so including the other fish, things may get tight. would recommend at the very least to look into similar sized tank that I have, 125G (~500liter), and get a wide tank over a tall if possible as this will give more lateral freedom to your fish. None of them need a high tank :good:

One last thing, and this may seem to want to make the tank look bare, but i believe it is for your fishes safety. the jagged rock work you have in there is not the best choice for skiddish fish like balas and clumbsy fish such as o's. Both can either get spooked or just not pay attention to where they are going and seriously lacerate a fin or their scales which could end up killing them.Just my feeling that having rough rock such you have may not be the best choice with these species of fish :good:

Thankyou very much i take you comments on board they are usefull. i will certainly be having a think. Do you have a picture of your tank so i can visulise the size .

thank you

Nothing to get a perspective of what size this is, but it's 6' long, 18" wide and 20" tall.

Haha, i just noticed too, this is when I first set the tank up in my new apartment... look how the small the sd's are! (small silver ovals at left of tank). I should take an update pic to show how much they've grown in only two months.... its amazing

In the tank:
  • 6 x giant danios (4")
  • 6 x sd's (largest roughly 3.5" around)
  • 1 adult JD (8")
  • 1 common plecostomas (10")
  • 6 x khuli loaches (~3 to 4")
  • 2 x juve green sevs (2")

though you can't see most of them... the JD is under the right bogwood, the pleco under the left, and the sevs hiding behind the left bogwood

As I said, here is a pic from yesterday. This pic shows the sd's in the middle and when compared to how big they were in the previous pic, they have atleast doubled, if not tripled in size!

Lovely tank and yer they have grown. I would expect the sd's to slow down now as thats what mine did. Still looks so empty tho lol your obviously patient

well I have to be. The sd's will get to prob twice their current size and the sevs will get upwards of 8 to 10" atleast so I will have some big boys in there eventually, just gotta keep feeding em :good:

and sorry if I'm sorta high-jacking your post with those last couple of pic posts... not cool when someone does that :look:
