1 dead molly when I got home today and some pretty sick looking silver dollars sitting on the bottom of the tank...these are the test results:

PH 8.5
ammonia 0.5
Nitrite 0.1
Mitrate 0

Water temp 28.5 degrees, it's been a hot day today.

I have changed 50l of the 180l tank to try to reduce the temperature, but what else can I do?

3 silver dollars
2 geophagus
1 kissing gourami
3 black widow tetra
2 sailfin mollies
3 other mollies.

First of all the PH is way to high. The second thing is the water readings should be 0. You need to get the ph down but do it slowly. What is the ph reading out of your tap water..How long has your tank been going for I think it is still cycling. That is one of your problems. You can do small water changes daily and this will keep the fish alive.

Thanks for your reply, I bought the tank and fish second hand 7 days ago and transported it home with 20% original water in it. We filled up with tap water (dechlorinated) and the fish have been happy since until today. We did a 20% water change tonight and droppped the temp which got the ammonia level down from 0.5 to 0.1, but the big silver dollars still don't look too happy although the smaller fish are still darting around. Unfortunately our tap water PH is 8.5 so how can we alter it and how much water should we be changing while the tank is cycling with the fish in it?
