Okay so I went to walmart today (the one that has fish) and couldn't help but to see this pathetic little white male staring at me with his big black eyes. I've always wanted a white male and I just fell in love with him. He has red lines through his tail, which I think is some sort of infection as he is starting to get fin rot. I am medicating him now and within a few hours of being in clean water, the lines seem to be fading fast.

So I stood in the fish department for a good 10 minutes staring at him and watching him just sit there as sad as could be. They keep their bettas in fairly large cups, but only fill them up about an inch of water. I would have told them to fill it up more, but no one was there. I was tempted to fill them myself, but I couldn't find any dechlor.

So after walmart paged twice for someone to help me in the fish department, I got pretty mad and the ice cream was literally melting in the shopping cart. They paged a third time and STILL no one there. I just grabbed the cup and walked up to the register with it and purchased it there. When they asked if I wanted my fish in a bag I said, "No thanks, I don't have time to wait for that." Then we bought the fish and the groceries and drove home.

So I have an empty vase and an empty kritter keeper. The vase holds about 2 gallons and the kritter keeper holds one. He is in the kritter keeper now, but I am not sure if I should move him to the vase. The kritter keeper is longer, but the vase is taller. Which would be better for a betta?

The vase is shaped like this:

Sorry for such the bad drawing, my digital camera needs new batteries so I can't take a picture of it.

Erm, I'm hardly an expert, but it seems to me that bettas appreciate more room lengthwise, than anything else... so I, personally, would favor the longer kritter keeper, versus the taller vase.

how is he getting around? is he swimming well? if he is having any trouble i wouldn't put him in the vase...

He is swimming around just fine right now. He is eating and everything else, even flaring! I haven't tried him in the vase yet. I don't know if I should put him in tehre or not. :dunno:

LOL
LOVE your vase drawing.
That was sweet.

I'd definitely go for the kritter keeper - even though the volume of the vase is bigger, he'll get more bang for the buck with his laps in the keeper.

You know - since I have been hearing you talk about them, I actually looked at a few of them when I was in Mounds the other day. I really dig them except they have those obnoxious colors. I plan to get one - and have it on hand so I can use it for a hospital tank, if necessary.

Hmm... But then again.. I'm sure that if it sat around long enough and didn't get used right away I'll end up finding someone that is pathetically sick and drag it home.

Hmm....

ps - I'm dying to see your new fish.
Maybe you could draw us a picture.
;)

Haha I think you'd probably go blind from my betta picture if I drew one hehe. Just tried to divide the tank and the new boy kept getting into the other side, so he is back in his 1 gallon. I feel kind of bad for him because everyone else has bigger tanks than him. :-(

I'll probably end up getting him a 2 gallon bowl like my female is in now.

I was looking through some of my older sister's old pictures and they had bettas for the centerpiece of the prom!!! UGH! They were in little vases with some decorations hanging out of the top with only like 3 inches of water. I would have taken them all home if I went to that prom. I never knew they had bettas for her prom. She said she didn't know what they did with them after, but probably threw them in the ditch or something. :-(

ive been wanting a white betta to they had the prettiest bettas at walmart today i had to pass them but im sure i will be back tommorow one is all white white blue fins and the other one was all white whith green fins. and the kritter keeper is probably better mine seem to like them i prefer the two gallon kritter keepers myself. :D

thats how I got my first betta, a wedding centerpeice set. I took home 3 bettas, one died within a day, I gave the other to a friend and kept one.

and I def say critter keeper.

I love the white ones too, but I am always afraid to pick one out. I have heard that they get sick easier because of the way their color picks up light...Is that true, anyone else heard this? I donno, I could probably keep anything alove. I have that nack. I could practically nurse anything back to health. My hubby thinks it's a blessing and a curse, because I always have critters around...but I am heloing them so he doesn't say anything...lol. At least I stopped taking in strays...but Walmart Bettas are kind of the same thing. :*)
