i also have 0.25ppm ammonia...that wouldnt cause ammina burn would it? so whats meds are good without destraying cycling bacteria?

i think my platy has fin and tail rot....im a little unsure...cuz the male is always chasing her also....but it seems to be a slow steady disappearance on the bottom corner of her tail.... SO...what med do you reccommend....im thinking of maracyn2.... im looking for something effective but...

doesnt adding water straight from the tap kill the cycle bacteria due to the chlorine? -how long before bacteria start dying off due to chlorine? -how long before the water conditioner does its job?

hey... thanks for all that info... so it seems if i want a well planted low maintenance tank i should stick with gravel and power filter.....its only a 10G, and i dont plan to have many fish, so the bio-load should remain moderate.... no i just have to figure what plants to plant....

Next set of Questions: -I have a slightly greyish/whitish slimy looking stuff on my tank glass, which scrubs off, but only after a couple of strong strokes with a scrubbing sponge...algae or just fish gunk? Anyone know what this might be? -Gravel vs sand? what are the practical pros and cons...

another question :) -How can i make my water a little harder? my pH is 7.0, but the hardness (both GH and KH) are at 2degrees (correct usage of terms?) which is low for platies.... i have some sea shells, do you think i could boil them, clean them and put them into tank? will they make water...

Here you go VV i dont know how to measure gravel, but if flattened is about 1 1/2 inch high in the 10 gallon tank.

Hey, My Platy just had a small clutch of fry ( 6-8 )... I dont have a seperate tank....so i moved the fry to a jar... I was wondering, what is better, leave them in the jar or back to main tank (where they are at risk of being eaten)?
