    Lucky they didn't...

I'm fifteen, turning sixteen in July. Now, I don't usually speak up about things, but if someone says something incredibley stupid near me, I have to say something snarky. To myself, or whoever is with me. When I bought my girls way back when, there was a sad-looking Betta in an art-deco vase...

    A proper Betta vase

=D Yay, people don't think I'm crazy! If the roots do tear fins, couldn't other marsh-style plants be used? I know there are some used in terrarium/aquarium mixes, or ponds. There may even be some that flower, adding more of a live beauty to the vase, since people seem to think fish aren't...

    bettas in community tank

Now, while I can't say my Bettas get along famously, they get along quite well for a lonely pair. I'm going to be berated for this, but the most I've seen is Dimi flaring his eyes out at Maraschino and her swimming away into plants. In fact, Dimi has more finnage missing than the girl does...

    A proper Betta vase

Yes. I never post. The thing on the bottom is outdated (the 50g is gone) and... I just needed to rant, and share. This is about the local... post office. Yep. They've got a large 30 gallon tank for sale, and on top, three vases. One is empty, two are GREEN with algae, with a dying plant on top...

    Yippee!!!!

Wow! I hope you find some good fish, because Crowns and Halfmoons have gorgeous finnage. As for favourites, I'm really not fair, but Draconis is my favourite boy. Bright red, big, with fins that go forever and a pout that just says "LOVE ME." Little Girl is my favourite girl, since she's so...

    It's a jungle in here!

Well, it will be, once I get my way. I just like talking, sometimes, maybe that's why I post pointless things, but I digress. I plan on taking my ten gallon Betta tank (see, down there?) and turning it into a masterpiece, like the tanks shown in my Baesch atlas or the Nature Aquarium World...

    Oh god.

No. The only extra tank I have at the moment is an empty, cycled two-gal that I just moved a Betta out of for being too cold. Even though he's still short enough to fit, it wouldn't do his wound any good.

    Oh god.

With the fin out of the water in shallow tanks and all? Well, Sharkie has no jaw anymore =\ A few weeks ago the heater wonked out, and while his mate took a nose-dive the Danios/Tetras decided he was a good source of food and nibbled a hole right behind his upper-lip. The past week he was...

    Crazy for white bettas =]

WOW. He's beautiful. White Bettas- yes, even the not-really-white ones- are the prettiest of all. Though every Betta is pretty =)

    very upset...

I hope she pulls through, she's such a pretty little girl. Is there a lid on your tank? Maybe she just wanted to see if the rest of the world was watery, or if you were swimming in nothing. Come on Boink, you can do it!

    Friend is at it again

It depends on the Betta. Some are mellow and will float around with his harem, some will scoff and say "BREEDORDIE!" Tell him if any of them look particularly chewed up (nips are fine, it's natural) or the male is chasing the females VIOLENTLY (as in, into tank walls) remove the little bugger...

    Unga chunga wunga bunga...

Well, I knew my Ferret war-danced, but I never expected a Betta to! But that's right, tonight Nightingale war-danced. He flared as much as he could and sort of strut-wiggled forward, flicking his tail and scissoring his ventral fins. A Plakat war-dance! Unga chunga wunga bunga....

    20 Gal. Setup!

Maybe instead of a Pearl get another Dwarf, and more Guppies to keep your little guy occupied. Even a harem of boring old Feeder females would be great- Pickle isn't complaining about his. I don't know much about Sharks, but the rest of your stock can be found in my tank, save the Rasboras...

    Beautiful.

Well, everyone has a favourite fish, or two, or three. What are yours? Mine would have to be Bettas, followed by Cories, Angels and Phantom Tetras. Someday I will have the fifty-gallon all to myself, and don't think I won't have those last three cluttering it up! I might actually start early...

    ARRRGGG killer ziploc

My aunt brought her fish over in a ziploc. I saw the edge sticking out and was torn between figuring out what fish I was introducing to the 50, and letting the poor things out to breath.

    Angry.

Well! I've gotten the numbers for the fishies that I rescued. One painted Glassfish, three dyed White Phantoms, three Neons and two Algae Eaters. I'm actually thinking of getting three more Neons and adding them all to my Betta community, and getting a brand new 20g to house a few more...

    Danio got stuck

I had a Danio get sucked into a filter (a very violent filter, a filter that turned an ADF into pate) for three months. I'm sure he'll be fine, though he might have a few battle-scars.

People would still abuse them though. Even with laws protecting cats and dogs, people abuse them, because they still think they're just animals. If I ever crack around someone like that, they'll probably end up eating through a tube.

    Angry.

I would, but my mother has this thing. If I call the SPCA on them, she will pitch a fit at me. And her fits last ages and ages- as in, months. There is no way to escape it, it drives me insane. Sometimes I hope the poor dog will get off his own butt and take his own walk- down the road to...

    Angry.

As far back as I can remember my aunt and uncle have had a ten gallon tank. It's not the best, with a thin layer of purple and black gravel, a hunk of quartz and a few plastic plants, and that's it. I remember fish constantly changing, so much so that when they said they were bringing their fish...

    Question

I haven't got any jars, but I have got my males safely seperated. Nightingale is in the Barracks until I get another tank, he might move to a vase if the Barracks slides away again. Athens has the old Explorer, and Drac is in his own Explorer II. I spoil my boys.
  23. X

    Question

Well, that explains it! While Athens was running the tank, Nightingale was squished inside of his safe hidey-hole cave! I also never knew the oviposter thing, but it's not that the males have an oviposter, it's that they're lacking them that makes me think they're boys. They're all older Bettas-...

    Betta dance

Drac does his Happy Fishie Dance everytime I go near him. The little bugger flares and acts like a car in traffic- forward, STOP, forward, STOP!- then wiggles and yaps at me. Cutest little face on him. Mr Betta (my dad's red Betta) has an even more adorable puppy face, he looks like a younger...

    Question

Actually, I don't think I really asked a question. I just found it very strange that I apparently kept a pair of Plakat males in with a trio of females, and the Plakats didn't kill each other. Aren't Plakats the equivalent of pit bulls? Fighters to the last, purely by blood. And SmithRC, I...

    Understocked

Pygmy cories! You must get Pygmy cories! They are the cutest little buggers ever, and since they are smaller than most cories you can get a lot more than if you were to get- say- Peppered or Albino cories. At least two Pygmies to a Peppered.

    Deathly Ill Girl

Oh, I'm sorry about your Bettas. In my opinion fungus is worse than dropsy- I've had fish live through dropsy, but never fungus. Don't feel bad that you couldn't save her, feel good that you gave her a good home while she was alive.

    Question

Is it possible to keep a pair of Plakat males in a tank with three females, and not have them murder each other or the girls? Because I think I managed to do that for a few days. I got a nice flare out of Nightingale and lo and behold, there is no oviposter. NONE. Which means I had two...

    Miniature Community?

Pointless response here, but are the Dainty Cories AKA Pygmy Cories? If they are, get a ton of them. They are the cutest, funniest little things you'll ever see.

    -Twitch-

Yep, it was just a filter thing. I've checked several times since washing it around one, and there's been no water anywhere. I also took out the peat moss, which had clumped so badly it was an unidentifiable blob! Yep, Fly gets blamed for everything. The cat is missing? Fly did it! Something...

    -Twitch-

Today, I wake up and... step in a puddle. Naturally, the dog gets blamed. Dog cowers and hides while people yell and call her bad. But when I fed the girls, I see water collecting along the tank trim. Awha? I dry it off, and think the dog might've bumped it a bit too hard. An hour later there's...

    I hate shipping companies!

I hope they survive the night and come home to a good Fishie-daddy in one piece. If they don't, you can always get almost-perfect fish from the Aqua Tropicale on Rue Ferrier. I never pay attention, but I'm positive it is in Montreal and not the West Island.

    Damn you mixed-stock!

Nightingale has escaped several times from her Barracks, and everytime she does the girls scatter and clamp up. When she's in they strut and wiggle. Xena played a good old game of Where Can I Fit? and put herself between the plastic and suction cup, and then wiggled out. Nightingale might be...

    Damn you mixed-stock!

I remember why I got out of Bettas in the first place. The injuries. Damn, it's annoying, all the moving and wondering and hoping they don't up and eat each other or themselves. I might have a second Plakat on my hands, though definately a female, or maybe a mutt male. The store I bought them...

    Think I have a problem...

The moment Athens was removed, everyone came out of hiding and did the Fishie-Dance-of-Joy. Fins were unclamped, wounds were paraded and fishies pouted and gobbled up bloodworms. All is well in the female-Betta-world. Athens, on the other fin, doesn't like his new tank very much. I didn't have...

    The Sweetest Thing.

Luckily, we had an old heater in my empty 10g. It was actually the 50's original heater, from way-back-when, and a 250 watt one. Popped it in and everything was good as new. 'Cept the losses, of course. An update: One of the blacks got bratty with my big boy, nipping at a hole that the little...

How many Betta's do you have?

Hmm, well, let's see. A veiled male, a Plakat male, a veiled female, two delta females and a crown female. ... Yep, more than 5. How did I go from one to six in three days?

    The Sweetest Thing.

Christmas week, my dad's titanium tube heater wonked out. Amazing, it's the most expensive and supposedly long-lived thing he could find, and it died. Yay! A few fish took horrible nose-dives, and a few shrimp did too. Most noticeably, Calico, the Calico Angel. Huge, the size of my palm, flat...
