i just got myself a new 2180 thermal of ebay for £260 boxed does anyone know if the eheim surface skimmer is any good, easy to fit?

i'd test your tap water as mine has around 20-40 ppm nitrate lvls, and the ammonia looks like it's at zero..so if it's coming out ya tap at 20-40 ppm theres not a lot you can do(plants maybe). but i'm no expert, just an opinion :)

well i am not 100% sure of the proper way, but mine has always been 100% straight up :)

i think they might have an in-line one, or put it on the side like mine. as long as you have plenty of flow it works ok.. mines been in said position for several years and all's been ok :)

couldn't you use some plastic mash with an elastic band wrapped around the tube? i was wanting to try one of these, do you know where i can get it in the uk? it would need to be about 25+ feet i think..

i would put half of your old media into your new filter and leave it to run for a few days, and top up the old filter at the same time and keep moving it across bit by bit. if you're able to of course. (just one way) good luck with the new tank :)

yeah aqua your right, i was presuming it was a smallish bit of wood(my bad) but yeah it depends on size etc etc.. my new bit of wood had a 2 weeks of soaking in a cleaned out wheelie bin used for garden waste(maybe you have one you could use) but it is a very large bit of wood, no tannins for...

i use http://www.charterhouse-aquatics.co.uk/catalog/jbl-proflora-u402-disposable-co2-system-p-3171.html lasts well in my 170l tank and you can get an attachment if you want to use refillable bottles.. :)

some get soaked before there sold so you might not get any tannins, but i would poor boiling water over it before putting it in the tank. :) 24 hrs should be enough imho for it to be soaked. but that's just my opinion. glad ya happy with it :)

yeah, its tough as i have to rely on others to do my tank(with me being in a wheelchair) doing the fat controller bit..lol.. so longevity is a must and daily water changes for a week or so would be tough but not inpossible. and it saying it would last only a year etc is the biggest turn off for...

hiya.. i'm newish to this so please be gentle..lol. i have a 200l tank with a fluval 305 sand substrate+plants, and i have added a wave maker 3000lph flow is great now..hehe.(it helps with poo pick-up too) i only have it turned on when the lights are on so the fish get a rest @ night. for me...

hiya. mine have been on the glass for several years now with rain gutter covers (from b and q) wrapped in tin foil, as i to have a wooden lid that needs to be taken off.. no problems had here, but mine are set @ either side of the sliding glass lid. so not obtrusive @ all.. :)

i wouldn't say its fast fast, and it has a little difficulty getting big bits of poo up. but all in all it does a great job on my sanded substrate. no buckets etc, as i just put it out side.. :) :) (200l tank 20-25% water change in about 5 mins) and you'd av to be slow as ---- to get water in...
