Not overrun just got plenty and wanted to thin them out a bit. They are pretty prolific breeders but sadly yes, they would be a light lunch for assassins.

When I move stuff between my tanks I just use food bags. Always got loads and work a treat.

Have a look on aquarist classified, do a search for your county and see what's for sale locally. I have bought loads from local breeders and the quality has been excellent and so has the price.

Thanks! It's just a black aquarium background I bought from a pet shop. I use black on all my tanks but have found that using a black bin bag stuck on well is just as effective and a lot cheaper than buying proper background.

I have a 180l, 2 70l and a 30l tanks running right now. External filter on the 180. Air pump driven sponge filters on the 70s and internal filter on the 30. All heated, and my electricity usage has at least doubled, sometimes tripled (depending on the temp in the house I think) on a daily basis...

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm really pleased with it to be honest. I don't plan to add anything else so just going to let it grow out for the near future.

Well when you order them online it can be more than that, tell you what ill do. Got a small spare plastic tank. I'll bring that with a spare heater and put them in there before I leave then bag them up again on the Monday morning.

I'm going back very early Monday (about 5.30) so Sunday evening would probably be best (unless you like getting up really early!lol) then they will only be out of a tank around 12 hours or so which will be fine. I'll keep it nice and warm. We are in north Wales Sunday until about 5ish so after...

Bigger than 40% waterchanges as if the Nitrites are at 5 before and you are only changing 40% then the Nitrites will still be around 3 after the change and your fish will be suffering.

Its not a big crack. Around 2" on the base. Going to have a bash at it with some aquarium silicone and see. So annoying!

Picked up two new 18" tanks today. Got a great deal. Ordered some sponge filters. Bought some sand. Ordered an air pump. Got them home...... Cracked one of the tanks getting it out of the car. Bu**er.

It doesn't matter if its 2 litres or 2000 litres. The principle is exactly the same. Ammonia is ammonia and 0.25ppm in a small tank is the same as 0.25ppm in a large tank. The fish will suffer.

I stand to be corrected but I don't think any if them actually remove ammonia. Just make it less harmful for a time by binding it with another chemical? Apologies if this is inaccurate. I would say only cycled filters and water changes remove it.

Next purchase..... a water testing kit. Then have a read in the beginners section at fishless cycling and crack on with that.

If you are cycling with fish in you dont want to be adding ammonia. It will only cause the fish to suffer more than they will be already.

Some people are just ignorant. In this day in age there is no excuses for getting things so wrong. With information so easily available nowadays, internet, smartphones etc, it astonishes me that people still go into hobbies blind without a second of research and then continue when they are told...

+1 for argos play sand. £3 ish for 15kg. Little tip, don't buy 2 bags (30kg) then carry it half a mile to the car. Nearly killed me.
