    Nice Community of Cichlids

The frontosa is only about 8", and does pretty fine. Frontosa are slow moving fish who prodominantly hang out on the bottom in a cave. My frontosa comes out to eat and swims about only occassionaly. There is actualy plenty of room. I have alot of rock in there and there is still plenty of room...

    New to Cichlids

I have been raising cichlids for years, and they will definately not do well in a 5 gal tank. You could keep some fry in there for a short period of time; but many cichlids grow very quickly. The slower growers tend to get very large. Cichlids are messy carnivors, who need lots of water and...

    New Fish

The Malawi Dolphin is a great fish. I have a male and three females. I have read that they would not breed for 3 years, but my 4-5" male and a 4" female just breed and she is holding eggs right now.

    How many pounds of rock

If you are talking about gravel, it is one pound per gallon. If you are talking about holey rock or something like that, it is not a matter of paounds, but what will fit together and make the most caves of the sizes you need.

Can you mix Lake Tang. with Lake malawi?

Absolutely you can mix them. What you need to research, is the agression levels of the fish that you want to mix. I recommend a semi agressive community tank. I saw semi agressive, becasue all cichlids are somewhat agressive, especially if they are the dominant male in the tank. My tank mix is...

    how many?

You can do it two ways. You can have very few, so that they can stake out territories and keep to there own. The other way you can do it, is to put no caves are rocks at all so that they have nothing to use to setup territories. You then slam about 20 or 30 (regular psuedotrophs) with alot of...

    Frontosa??

These Frontosa will get up to 14 inches long. However they will grow slowly, so the 10 gallon will work for a little while. I have an 8" Burundi and a 3" Aqua blue. I get the aqua blue when it was about 1.5" back in February, and has only doubled in size in the last six months. Frontosas grow...

chemicals to use for african cichlids

Make there water as close to the conditions to the lake they come from as possible. This is not absolutely critical becasue these fish will survive in varying water conditions, and have moist likely been breed and raised in water consitions that differ from there natural habitat. DOn't just go...

    pleco w/ cichlids?

The cichlids are not going to hurt the pleco, he is protected by his armor. However, how big are your cichlids going to get? How big of a tank are you planning to have? My pleco has grown to about 10 inches, and is still growing. Since he is a bottom deweler, he competes with my Africans for...
