    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

I have been feeding well and a big variety in hopes of plumping the females up. I started to try and separate the males and females today, and I think I may have discovered something that will help determining the sex of my rummy's. Males have a small hook in their anal fins. As I separated...

    Silver Angelfish

Thanks Jen! I plan to grow them out, and sell most of them. Some of the nice ones I'll keep, and try to pair up...they are worth more if they are bonded, proven, and raise the spawn on their own. This pair I paid $3 each for, but now that they have produced several spawns and raise them on...

Dr. Google isn't helping my sick fish

Sorry. I use RO water in all my tanks, and haven't had the need for Prime or any water conditioner in years. I don't really remember anything about Prime...just know it as the good stuff :) I mostly breed now which is kind of a different animal. I breed South Americans, so lighting and the...

Opinions on angelfish for future tank?

You will see some minor aggression as territories are established, and the sub dominate learn their place. The real aggression comes from pairing, and then spawning. If a pair spawns in a community tank any fish that ventures near the eggs will be a hard target. A 3'-4' tank with plenty of...

Pretty quick cycle and stocking. You may have added too heavy of a bio load to quickly...ich outbreak is also a likely cause do to stress. Flashing is not only a sign of ich...ammonia too, among many other gill irritating diseases

My angel fish is face down vertical

I agree that it could be something with the swim bladder. But, sadly, in my experience nose down is a sign of Nitrite poisoning as well. What are the h2o stats? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

I agree. I have read they will spawn in groups or a single pair. However, in a group it's necessary to have a favorable ratio of males to females. But, that's where info starts to contradict again. However, most seem to agree that a 2:1 or a 3:2 males to females works. Sent from my iPhone...

    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

The biggest challenge has been determining the sex of the fish. I have looked everywhere for information in how to determine this. The only thing I could find was body shape. Females are said to be rounder bodied when they are carrying eggs. I even found in one article to look down upon the...

    Silver Angelfish

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Angelfish genealogy as I never intended on breeding Angelfish....this was just a happy accident that started in my sons community tank, and I took it on for the fun. But, judging from these 5 week old juvies it looks like I'm going to get 50/50 in Striped...

    My Breeding Set-Up

Hi All, Thought I would add a playlist of my new breeding set-up. I'm pretty proud of it, and its working great. I'm already full up with fry for my local club's BAP(breeders award points) program. I hope it inspires some of you future breeders out there...

    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

Swing and a miss. Nothing on this attempt. I am altering my method on this next attempt. This time I am not going to use the sphagnum moss. It's just too messy. If I even did get eggs or fry there's very little chance I would be able to locate them in all that. To achieve the neccessary pH...

    sex my bolivian rams?

Still super hard to tell. The tank shots are the same fish right? Just judging from the dorsal fin the one in the tank is possible female. Can't tell the one in bag at all at all. Sorry. Maybe in a couple more months. I'm also from Chicagoland

    Please help, Ich... what meds?

You don't need meds. Freshwater ich is easily managed. Raise the temp to speed up the lifecycle as mentioned. Ich will feed on the host and then drop off to multiply before hatching, becoming free swimming, and looking for another host fish to start the cycle all over again. It is during the...

    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

Thanks!! Best schooling fish in the trade imo. I hope to have some good news in a couple of days. I've had a lot of success breeding Angels and Apistogramma, but these guys and Cardinals are a bit tricky and more challenging. Maybe that's why I could not find too many breeding success stories...

    Rummy Nose Tetra Breeding

Hello all, I am attempting to breed Rummy Nose Tetras. I have scoured the net researching only to find information is quite limited, and in a lot of cases articles contradict each other. I am hoping that posting my project here I will attract some discussion and insight from more experienced...

    Bryopsis! It's Killing Me!

My Mg is down to 1280ppm. I don't dose anything else at the moment. I have no corals so I don't dose anything extra. Regular w/c keep parameters in check. I also have Miracle Mud in the fuge to help keep trace elements up. The algae scrubber is producing, however it is hard to tell wether it...

    Bryopsis! It's Killing Me!

I have had chaeto in the sump on a couple of occasions but dies off rather quickly 2 to 3 weeks. I only have a law mower Blenny right now, but he doesn't seem to touch it on the rocks. Only goes for smaller patches of algae in the corners. Oh...tank has been running 2 years, and I've been...

    Bryopsis! It's Killing Me!

Hello all! I have a huge Bryopsis algae problem that I can't get over. Twice now I've upped my Mg to 1600ppm using Kent Tech M. It helps kill it off to an almost gone state, but it never goes away completely. Then when it comes back it comes back twice as fast and triple the size. I still do...

Thoughts On My Home Made Algae Scrubber

Interesting design. I'm not sure how you are getting water flow accross the screen? I've used the vertical waterfall style, and it worked well. Currently I'm using an upflow style like the diagram above. Here is a vid of my build. https://youtube.com/watch?v=0Nuj_XgcIYU

    Flame Angel Not Eating

Thanks for the reply! I hope I was taking precaution by choosing them the same size, and adding them together at the same time. I knew there could be a possible problem with aggression, but from what I researched doing this would help. And, it did. Here on day 7 their territories have been...

    Flame Angel Not Eating

They have been there 5 days. That's the funny thing. The Flame is the dominate of the pair...at least territorially. The Coral beauty is the submissive. The lfs fed flake...watched him being fed at the store. He comes to the food, but just won't take it.

    Flame Angel Not Eating

Hi All! I recently started adding my first fish to my marine build. I added a Flame Angel and Coral Beauty. While the Coral Beauty eats with gusto the Flame Angel won't touch anything. I've tried a variety of foods: Pellet, Flake, Frozen, Live, garlic added... Concerned because I don't want...

Watch Out Salt World. Here I Come !

I'll probably get the shunning for this, but in your research check out algae scrubbers. I built myself a solid algae scrubber, and haven't had to turn my protien skimmer on yet. Turning out to be a total waste of $180. Where as the scrubber cost me $25. IMO worth looking into before set-up.
