Don't use anything for ph, kh or ammonia. We did use stuff for ammonia when we first got the tank 2 years ago but nothing since. Nothing's changed in the tank - other than the fact that we've moved house to a different area. Still in the same city and same water company though.

Anyone else got any suggestions what I can do?

Just wanted to say I used the 6 in 1 strips and they said my tank had 0 ammonia, same for an ammonia-only test strip. I then used the API liquid test kit. I had 2.0 ammonia which is really dangerous level. So do not trust test strips AT ALL.

started treating the tank with melafix, had 2 treatments now. it's made the water go cloudy. will this be dangerous for the fry? i want them to survive. :( the platy fry are just under 2 weeks old.

None of the other shrimp have any green on them, I would be surprised if only one of them ate that much algae. I don't have a good growth of algae in my tank as its only been going since september (and I don't have a very plant-friendly light). I drop in algae wafers for the corys every night...

They're not that bad for your tank in small numbers, but I don't particularly want them as I already have my cleaning crew - some shrimps, which are known collectively as "the amigos". B-)
