    Developing a Rust-Like Growth

Hi---I set up a 10 gal tank for a baby Red Devil (which will be moved to my 180 gal when it's time). Anyway, it's been set up for about 3 weeks, w/ a Powerhead 301 using filter floss and ammonia remover. No probs w/ ammonia, nitrite or nitrate. Anyway, the tank decorations (all store-bought)...

    Disgusted with Pet Store

Sorry, I enjoy my fish a lot...but if/when one of them dies, I'm not nearly as upset as I would be if one of my dogs died. And as upset as I'd be if one of my dogs died, that would COMPLETELY pale to my sadness if something happened to one of my wife or daughter. There's got to be a hierarchy...

    Clown Loaches / ICH symptems

My parrotfish from the lfs developed what looks like a pimple on his forehead, actually two of them. They merged into one larger pimple, and then burst about a week later. A white stringy thing came out--very pretty. It was gone a day later, and now he has a smaller version of the pimple on...

    Nice big. cheap tank

Well my wife and I bought a 1 year-old, 180 US gal w/ two Fluval 404s, stand, lights, hood, 20+ fish and much more for the bargain basement price of $500. The previous owners of our home were moving cross-country and couldn't afford the expense and hassle of moving everything. And eBay will...

NEW FISH GUY - Inherited 180 gal tank--need advice

OK, I put the parrot into a 10 gal w/ gravel from the 180 gal tank. Now here's where I might be going wrong: The previous owner had a Powerhead 301 dangling and running in the middle of the big tank. It had nothing attached to it, just the head taking in water and pumping it back out. Seemed...

NEW FISH GUY - Inherited 180 gal tank--need advice

thanks for all the responses, guys. Here's what I'm gathering from all your ideas: 1) Oscars grow very big, as much as a foot long. As I said, there are 5 in the tank right now (I think--I'm not sure sure if 1 is an Oscar or not). They all look to be about 8-9 inches long; it's hard to tell...

NEW FISH GUY - Inherited 180 gal tank--need advice

Thanks for the advice, stingray...dimensions are simple: 72" length 24" height 24" width It's basically a giant rectangle... Regarding the add'l 55 gal filter, aren't the Fluval 404s good for 100 gallons of filtration? If so, would I be OK leaving out the 55 gallon. As for the "love...

NEW FISH GUY - Inherited 180 gal tank--need advice

Hello - We recently moved into a residence where the owners sold us their beautiful 180 US gal tank and about 20 fish, 2 Fluval 404 filters, a 55-gal wheel filter, and 2 heaters. They also left behind lights, accessories, etc., and we paid them only $500. :flex: So not a huge investment, but...
