It may sound silly, but what were you feeding the plec? Plecs eat soft algae and a vegetable based food. Flaked food and other meat based food will not keep these fish health. Just a thought! The photo to me looks like hole in the head!

I'm soooooo happy. I have been letting my guppies breed with no selection for around 4-5yrs and as a result, I have this spectacular CROWNTAIL GUPPY. Just thought I would show him off as he is a beauty. I'm hoping to be more select with his offspring to have more crowntail guppies like him. ;)

Please check your water as it sound like hole in the head (HITH)where poor water conditions can be a factor in most cases of HITH.

Yeah a picture would be good, my female guppies tend become less active and near the top of the tank when they are about to have some babies. I would keep a close eye on her scales, if they are sticking out like a pinecone (easier to see from above) then we have a problem called dropsy!

There can be lots of reasons for a fish to breath fast, but I think your pH might be to high as I have read they like a pH between 6.5 to 7. How often and how much are you changing your water as clown loaches need very good water and do you know what your nitrate and water hardness levels are...
