    Sick Guppie

I was going to ask the same thing. :good: Female guppies get fat when they are pregnant. When they are about to give birth, they will rest and have increased breathing. If you don't know how to sex guppies, the males tend to be the more colourful ones but to be sure look that the fins underneath...

    Guppy Illness Recurring

Could it be an age thing with the guppies, did you by them fully grown? they only live for a couple of years! Just a thought!

Dead Plec And No Idea Why !

It may sound silly, but what were you feeding the plec? Plecs eat soft algae and a vegetable based food. Flaked food and other meat based food will not keep these fish health. Just a thought! The photo to me looks like hole in the head!

    Sudden Ph Drop

Can I also give you an other suggestion......the wood in your tank? Is that new? I have found in my tanks, that when I had a lot of it, it dropped my pH level to similar levels. Just pointing out something that may or may not be an issue!

How Long To Cure Ich With Salt?

I would use a treatment and follow the instructions on the bottle. Take out any carbon filters from your tank as they will remove the treatment. You have to be very careful adding salt to your tanks and it can harm some some fish (Corys don't like salt one little bit). Raising the temperature of...

    Help Me Please

I have just been reading this post and would like to ask what colour the cloudy water is...... If the cloudiness is green you have an algae bloom and need to get a treatment to kill the algae as water changes will only feed the algae allowing it to persist. If the cloudiness is white you are...

Hi again.....I have 8 fish tanks with nothing but guppies in them.....trying to establish some fancy guppies. Currently working on yellow and gold cobras, sowrdtails, blue moscows, red moscows and crowntail. Yup I'm a guppy fanatic :P

    Crowntail Guppy

You have read my mind  and posted exactly how I plan to breed him :D I have been trying to find out if there is any breeders of crowntails in the UK and so far I've failed  Thanks on the advice for numbers xx

    Crowntail Guppy

I'm soooooo happy. I have been letting my guppies breed with no selection for around 4-5yrs and as a result, I have this spectacular CROWNTAIL GUPPY. Just thought I would show him off as he is a beauty. I'm hoping to be more select with his offspring to have more crowntail guppies like him. ;)

I think you have me confused with someone else as I haven't been on this site for a long time :p As for my profile picture.....no it's not one of my guppies, it is a tiger barb. I found the picture online and though it was cool. Jane!

Never Thought I'd Be Posting In Here

Please check your water as it sound like hole in the head (HITH)where poor water conditions can be a factor in most cases of HITH.

    Patchy Molly

I agree it is VELVET, only clicked when gold was mentioned! The fry should be ok but you would need to treat them anyway with the parasite being throughout the tank!
  13. squeeky_jane

    Ich!

Any treatment for ich (whitespot) is designed to kill the parasite while it's in the water where you cannot see it. The ich cycle starts as a capsules lurking anywhere in your tank, it hatches with lots of the parasite in side( this is the only time they are swiming in your water) and attach...

    Fish Dying Flat Out

It might be better if you have the charts beside your tests as different kits have different result. But I think something is wrong in your picture.....I would like to ask how you cleaned your filters, may sound daft but there is a correct method to do so. I hoping you know this but always...

    Floating Guppy

Yeah a picture would be good, my female guppies tend become less active and near the top of the tank when they are about to have some babies. I would keep a close eye on her scales, if they are sticking out like a pinecone (easier to see from above) then we have a problem called dropsy!
  17. squeeky_jane

    Patchy Molly

Yeah I would keep a close eye on him too and put some salt in the tank! Good luck :good:

    White Film On Harlequin Rasboras

EEK....good move move with the powerhead :good: , I'm assuming you don't have a spare air pump you can use to place and air line in the tank as you seem smart enough to has do so. I would change the water sooner and if possible use carbon in the filtration.

    Patchy Molly

possible signs of a stress fish included hiding, collapsed fins, becoming pale, loss of Appetite and fast breathing!
  21. squeeky_jane

    Patchy Molly

You seem to have high nitrate levels, this can stress you fish. Poor water quality can cause fish to change colour however I don't think he is changing colour, more looking pale from stress. Do you have any salt in your tank? Mollies need salt and this could be your answer! He could also be...

    Clown Loach Heavy Breathing

There can be lots of reasons for a fish to breath fast, but I think your pH might be to high as I have read they like a pH between 6.5 to 7. How often and how much are you changing your water as clown loaches need very good water and do you know what your nitrate and water hardness levels are...

    Sexing Guppy Fry?

I would believe the older ones are Mollies and the newborns are guppies. I have marked out who is who in you photos to give you a heads up. I'm pretty sure that your female guppy will have babies as they store the sperm of the father, if not mated within 24hrs of giving birth and can have around...

    Sexing Guppy Fry?

I believe you have a mixture of balloon molly and guppy fry :hyper: . I would suspect your guppy fry are still grey and developing colour on their fins and tails. Your molly fry have the black spots/colour randomly over their body. If you can identify who's a molly and who's a guppy, it will...

Can Any Help For Removing Argulus From My Aquerium

Was in the A_Z disease forum! Argulus - the fish louse (life cycle takes between 30 – 100 days dependant on the temperature.) Lice are one of the biggest threats to fish that you may come accross. They are approx 5 to 10mm in size and can clearly be seen with the naked eye. The biggest danger...

    Sexing Guppy Fry?

You just have to wait for the genopodiums to develop in your male mollies for sexing unfortunatly. But if you look at my picture of the baby guppies you will notice they lack the Gavid spot that developes on the females at about a week of age. Here a photo of a young female showing the gravid...

    Sexing Guppy Fry?

The female mature around 3month (sometimes sooner in warmer tanks) I think the male mature around two months. I would look out for early signs of the genopodiums in the males (the ability to move the genopodiums forwards, is a good indicator) if your are having trouble. I will try and get a...

    Sexing Guppy Fry?

Looking at your guppies it should be easy to see the black spot on the females from about one week old. Sexing Guppy Fry?

It can be difficult if you have yellow bodied guppies (blonds) but if they are gray I can help you. You should be able to see a dark almost black spot above the anal fin The anal fin on males will look less triangular as they mature to look long and pointed! If you are separating them and...
