yeah would make things that little bit easier. im away a lot so dont get chance to look after it. since the house refurb there wasnt really a place for it other than under the stairs so it wasnt in a place where i could really enjoy it either. when we extend the house theres gonna be a boys...

Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

thanks all, iv made sure its all gone to good homes. someone bought pretty much all of the corals in one go so that made life a bit easier. the clowns and toadstool are going tomorrow and then thats it :( i'll set up again at some point and do some things a little differently but overall im...

Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

thanks. well the time has come to sadly sell up. iv been really busy with work and have been staying away a lot. as a result the tank has been neglected a little so rather that see the livestock suffer its time to move them on. :( sad times. if work calms down i will probably set up...

    Tyler's 29Gal. Tank Project!

it depends what sort of rock it grows on. i have some growing over coraline and its easy to peel off but the stuff that grows on the porous rough rock is really hard to shift. test results look spot on.

    Tyler's 29Gal. Tank Project!

tanks coming along nicely. thats a great shot of the duncan, they look so much better in natural light. nice clowns too. i would put the gsp on a rock that you can easily move as theyr a pain when they start taking over and spreading to numerous rocks. i have 3 colonies in my tank that...

Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

well the macro tubes turned up and i managed to get a few decent shots. took around 100 to get these. the depth of field is tiny and the slightest shake ruins the photo so got some practicing to do. this isnt the best shot but i found it interesting, i didnt realise the snails had teeth...

Sorry been busy with work. Here it is finally... The tanks changed quite a bit since the last update. The sargassum like algae is spreading quite a bit but i prune it every couple of week to keep it under control. other than that everything is well. Since the last update iv added a few...

My New Marine Adventure - Rio 300

good read, just a shame the pics arent working. if you do an over and under set of baffles in the sump they will stop any micro bubbles being pumped back into the main tank. i would look at an alternative to the arcpod too, i wish id bought something else as the algaes dont grow very well...

    Starting My Marine Tank

just slotted a piece through and siliconed it in place. make sure you push the silicone in the small gaps. it will be a tight fit anyway. ill try and get a pic of his. i would maybe try and make some kind of brace to secure the external pipework. i suggested this to my friend but he never...

    Starting My Marine Tank

*youl probs have to get one made or diy one. theres a few tanks out there but they wont maximise the space usage. i have a backup heater, nitrate/phosphate and carbon reactor in mine aswell as a few macro algaes like chaeto. theres a large population of amphipods, copepods, rotis, snails...

    Starting My Marine Tank

you could use a tall single compartment sump on one side with an auto top up in the other. i would definitely try and sump the tank rather than use an external filter, you get so many more options plus you can do a bit of sumpwatching. you get loads of stuff growing in there that you dont see...

    Ph Drops At Night

your ph raises when the lights are on. the extra o2 increases the ph too. if you have a sump you can reverse light it to decrease the fluctuation in ph. i wouldnt say that sort of change is a problem though.

Fandangos Rio 125 New Build (Kind Of) !need Help!

yeah, use raw. dont put a huge bit in though. cut it up and it should last a few feeds. the shrimps and crabs love it too, so if the star has had enough and drops it they normally finish it off. congrats on the clowns :) the algae wont go away from what i understand. the phosban will...

Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

:thanks: iv took loads out of the tank, some of it grows really fast. iv read somewhere that a lot of the oceans sand comes from the hard algaes. i dont bother dosing cal now. just maintain the weekly water changes. i check the params every few months but theyr normally spot on, probably why...

yup you found it. spot on with the id. sounds like some people dont like the stuff but i quite like it. its a very slow grower though. i wont turn down the id offer :) heres some pics but i struggled to get decent ones. im hoping santa brings me a macro lens :). there was another type of...

thanks, just found a fella who sells frags really cheap. back to get some more after crimbo :) still getting to grips with the camera, theres so much to learn. do you know what the long green hard algae is? theres a small piece next to the manderin and a few more next to the duncan in the...

Its been a while since i done an update so here it is. Now the cold weather is setting in iv reverted back to using ro and salt rather than the NSW. standing on rocks with gale force winds and salty sea spray isnt the nicest of experiences. the torch didnt make it.. not sure why just...

Fandangos Rio 125 New Build (Kind Of) !need Help!

nice tank. get a load of algae hermits in there, they make quick work of hair algae. i started getting a bit when the reactor media needed changing but they soon got through it. the only time iv got a shock off my tank is when the heaters are on their way out. iv had 2 do this to me now...

    Tyler's 29Gal. Tank Project!

thats the same type of duncan i have. i bought it as a 3 headed frag when i first set up nearly 2 years ago. it didnt really do anything for the first 6+ months then all of a sudden it sprouted around 20 small heads from around the base of the other 3. i feed it mysis and crab cuisine every...

    Cyano Bacteria Or Something Else?

mine has finally gone after a couple of months. the rocks now covered in loads of coraline. it seems to thrive under the cyano. i added a diy phosphate and carbon reactor about a month ago which i think has helped a lot. iv also siphoned almost all of the sandbed away where it isnt covered...

    Marine Start Up

cant see a problem with the tank size. some people keep them as low as 15l i think. If your not using a sump use the internal filter to house nitrate remover and carbon. Loose the sponges. if you are using a sump take it out completely so it goves you a bit more space. things you will...

    Please Can Someone Help Me!

I dont think the skimmer would be needed as long as you do regular water changes. shouldnt be a problem in a tank that size. are you just keeping two clowns in there? Definitely try not to rush it. i would learn how to keep the water levels stable before adding anything else.

Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

    Reef Safe Water?

depends what size your tank is. if your buying loads of ro from the lfs it would probs be cheaper to buy an ro unit. my tank is in the front room and its almost silent. it was noisy at first until the overflow got its algae coating. the skimmer made a little noise but i dont use one now...

    Aquaray Led Lighting

i currently run 2 duo's and 2 t5's and they seem to be fine with pretty much everything so far. even got a few acros high up in the tank that are growing well. They give a nice shimmer effect too, not as nice as a halide but a lot cheaper to run. worked out they half the electricity bill...
