I had one like that in a 15g with 15 watt and I'm pretty sure it wasn't enough light. It tried to put out new shoots and stuff but eventually went light brown and broke up into bits. I eventually pulled it all out and got some low light plants, java moss, vallis and anubias. They do much better...

Sounds like you have the same tank and hood as I do. I have Java moss and anubias under the globe and vallis around the edge. they're all doing O.K. New growth is slow but consistent. I was thinking about building a new hood but I think I'll just get another tank with a better hood or make one...

My lfs is pretty good. A few helpful tips, and confirmed my suspicions of the local tap conditions. Products also seem to be getting cheaper with time. I think it's kind of mutual respect thing. I've overheard the staff telling a customer that their tank is still cycling and would not sell them...

Yeah, I have a mini and I was wondering about that carbon insert. The water actually seems to push around it rather than through it. I might try the filter floss instead. Plus it's heaps cheaper. :D

My Glass cats are finally coming out. 5 weeks after purchase. They look heaps cool. The three of them just hover in the current together or up to the surface for feeding. Still skittish but much less shy. :D

My bristlenose is trying to climb into my HOB filter via the overflow. What does this mean? (low disolved oxygen?) and could he get in there? I could lower the water level but it (the tank) is in my room and I'm not keen on the trickle. Any other suggestions? :dunno:

I have a 15g tank with an aquaclear mini. Do I need an airstone? I have a fair few live plants in there. It's pretty noisy at night, I've read the solutions to this but I'm a light sleeper. The AC mini provides a fair bit of surface agitation. The fish don't seem to be gulping at the surface...
