Started a new thread made some changes since then!   it's in the planted aquarium journal section. Won't let me paste, or quote your post.

    Juwel Rio 180

Fish appear much more active since the change.    Also got my reflectors fitted - light output is much better now.   And finally to try and catch the pregnant swordtail.   Plants seem to be rooting ok. Been removing a few dying leaves but other than that, seems good.   Note: better pics soon...

    Juwel Rio 180

Made a drastic change to my tank after seeing some on here. Went with ECO complete substrate topped with black gravel.   Plants aren't looking amazing at the minute but that's where I'm hoping someone will make a few suggestions   Before pic is the one with white gravel (don't seem to be able...

Looking To Improve My Planted Tank

Thanks for this mate I think you've given me the kick I need to do it. I personally believe black gravel brings out the colour in fish and plants much more than lighter colours.   The only fertiliser I've used is a quite a generic one and advise donly redosing after 2 weeks. Must be highly...

Looking To Improve My Planted Tank

Thanks mate. I've not even began fertisiling etc yet so that could be a good idea. I was just under the impression the substrate was most important, though I keep forgetting a lot of aquarium plants only use the roots for stablisation and not for nutrients.   Good idea! Sounds possible to add a...

Looking To Improve My Planted Tank

Hi All,   Had my Juwel Rio 180 set up now for nearly 2 years and just looking to improve it. Plants have been growing steadily but I've noticed they are slowing down and do seem to be getting munched a bit by my algae eaters.   When looking for new plants, I've realised a lot of the best looking...

Where To Go With My Tank?

Hi All,   I've had this setup now for a year and half and I really want to look into increasing the density of plants.   I've been looking at carpet plants and foreground, however, it seems the substrate is not suitable for those other than beginner 'easy to grow' plants.   I can't even imagine...

Neon Tetra Disease - Best Action?

Hi All,   I believe one of my neons has neon tetra disease.   It has a growth in its spinal area and when swimming towards the glass, the mid-part appears bent.   It does not appear to have difficulty swimming though has been less active.   No other fish have this, though 1 cherry barb died...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

Never even thought about that mate. Yeah I turn it off, then do the water change so you're maybe right. Checked again this morning, still 24C, something has been changed. Shame though really, wasted money on a new heater, I suppose I've got a spare now though....

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

Right, took heater out, cleaned filter. replace heater and it's been @24C for at least 7 hours now. Not sure why, maybe the water wasn't moving free enough around the filter as said above?

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

I did a short test running it on suckers on the glass with the same result, however I suppose I should do a proper test over night in this way. Will keep this thread updated. Good suggestion btw!

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

'Heaters aren't up to the job' - can rule this out as it was a few days ago 'issue with extension' - quite possible, I will try direct into the mains in a bowl later 'windows/doors' - no where near mate.   regarding the orange light, this is what I was saying above, it comes on but only for a...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

I tried it in hot water to test, although it moved, it doesn't prove the temperature. It's not reliable, but to put my hand in it is definately much colder than it was previously mate.   It's not the best method but it's all I can give you until I can get another thermometer.

    Planted Tank Setup Advice

For plants for beginners, just look in most aquarium shops mate. In my experience, they only tend to stock beginner plants, otherwise they usually state if it's not. I know i've read threads around her eon beginner plants but not got enough experience here to link mate! Try googling, I find a...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

the last one (lasted 9 months) didn't have an obvious brand - I purchased this tank second hand but for the period mentioned, it would keep my tank at a consistent temp. The new heater is Juwel 200W Heater mate. So 2 different heaters yes. Thanks for the prompt replies, the fish seem ok at the...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

It's been fine for 9 months until now though which is why I'm puzzled. i.e. if the old one lasted 9 month, surely a brand new one can last an hour!   So you suggesting it could be the power supply too? I ruled that out as the heater would turn on momentarily when adjusting the temp gauge...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

200W - but the fact is, 3 days ago this heater was heating my tank to 24-25C. Now it's not...     I know what you're saying mate but that's not what im getting at, what im saying is 3 days ago, my heater was heating the tank to 24-25C. It was monday I noticed the temp had dropped so turned the...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

Yes I've put the heater on max again just to test over night, the tank is still 22. I've just tested my glass thermometer in hot water to prove it works. I cannot think of any common issue that would affect two separate heaters (brand new). If anyone can help I would be really grateful as this...

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

Bang on 22 on the thermometer mate. I can't work it out, I thought electrical fault but it can't be. I've had the heater stuck to the glass rather than in the housing too, no difference.

Heaters...help My Tank Is Too Cool!

Hi,   I had a heater for my Juwel Rio 180, however it would not turn on and the temperature is now room temp.   In belief the thermostat had broken, I have replaced it with another Juwel Heater.   The new heater will now not turn on either unless I move the temp gauge to near maximum, and when...

    Need Assistance - Planted Tank

Thanks mate!!! Helped tons. Shame there isn't a thank button on here.   I will get chopping, they seem to be browning a bit at the minute but sure they'll recover.   As for the filter, I understand what you mean but this is integrated into the tank perfectly and consists of 6 filter mediums...

    Need Assistance - Planted Tank

Thank you for another detailed reply dude, much appreciated.   I had actually spotted these plants and researched into their requirements - i think this is why most aquarium shops sell them (excluding vallis, never seen this in shops).   The thing with the anacharis is, if not done right, the...
