Thank you. It's now becoming clearer and clearer and I'm starting to piece things together. Looks like the best thing to do is start these water changes in line with frequent water tests and then go from there. I'll post some results later in the week.

Does that mean that I should start changing the water once either the ammonia or the nitrite levels reach 0.25 as my upper level? quote name='waterdrop' date='Aug 19 2009, 10:53 PM' post='2504341'] No, your pH is fine for now, I'd just set that question aside for the moment and you can come...

Ok, I'm not impatient so happy to add fish whenever the time is right. I can now start seeing the benefits of the water test kits as I'm now starting to not acting blindly and have some basis for my actions. How often in the fish-in cycle should I change the water or is it a case of looking at...

Ok, I've finally got the test kit and got the following results. I've read that these tests can vary but thought I'd post on here to see whether my leels are drastically haywire or have balanced out a bit that I can rest assured my tank is in better shape than when I started and whether I should...

Opps! The correct one should be coming tomorrow. Is there a way to tell if white spot is present in the tank or is it still worthwhile just going through a white spot treatment routine.

I've bought the "API Reef Master Test Kit". Is this the correct one as I've just realised there are several. It has tests for nitrate and nitrite as well as a few others. Should I start using this water test kit as well as start using the white spot treatment as per the instructions on the bottle?

Opps.........think I've started a bit of a debate on my predicament. I really really appreciate all the help and a few points have sunk in straight away but lots more reading is ahead of me. It is a good thing I have no holidays and hopefully won't have any unplanned absences from home. Just a...

Thanks everyone for all the amazing advice. I'm already on the case with the water test kit and reading up more than I did before. I'm now completely stuck with re-homing the rainbow tetra and 3 shrimp. The only people I know who have tropical fish have a slightly larger tank with a fairly...

Just checked and the temperature is 25 degrees C. Is this too high?

    Newbie - Completely Confused

What shall I do with the rainbow tetra and shrimp while I set everything up from scratch again? I was reluctant to do more than 20% water change due to the fish being shy and lacking colour for some time - Is this normal or just due to how I have looked after the tank previously? Not sure how...

I bought a strip test from teh LFS, put the strip into the water, wait 1 min and then look at the colours and their levels on the colour charts (however, must admit if they are not right I'm not too sure how to ensure they get balanced out). Everything seems to be in normal range, even the pH...

    Newbie - Completely Confused

Ok, so I've always wanted to get a tropical fish tank and finally bought one in April this year. I had searched round the Internet for the basics (missed this site unfortunately!) and spoke to one of the assistants at my LFS to go over exactly what I should be doing. I went for a 30L Biorb due...
