I just wanted to get an opinion on these fish. I've tried to do some research on them, but there seems to be conflicting information. Are they hybrids with Goldfish (hence the long-fins) or not? And are they as hardy as other koi? Since I live in Canada it gets a tad cold during the winters...

I am also very interested to hear the results! It's one of those items for sale I just can't comprehend. You'd hope that they wouldn't sell something that's completely useless- but then again, it's a big company who wants to make money.

I *believe* it's usually recommended to have more than one female to every male. She may just be hiding so she can get away from him for a little while.

Does the shrimp thing actually work? I've researched elsewhere online about other techniques & alot of people seem to think that the shrimp cycle theory is bogus. (I don't mean to doubt you, I'm just wondering if you've ever tried it..)

I've always wondered... how do you drain the sand after you wash it out?

I have a yellow lab, Nikka. She was supposed to be a service dogs to children with autism, but had some health issues, so she flunked out & we got to keep her. Now she looks after all the other pups that come through our house during their training.
