5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

My tank sadly never cycled :(. My ammonia drops to around 0.75 ppm and seemingly never goes lower. I've had some readings of nitrite and nitrate but no big spikes. Currently 0 nitrites and around 2 nitrates. I've tried a few additions of ammonia after traces of nitrite, and it drops back to...

5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

Hey guys - my nitrite has been stalled at 0.25 now for weeks. Ammonia around 1 or slightly less. Would you recommend adding more ammonia or is there no point in that until my nitrites increase?

5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

Good news is that I'm definitely now reading nitrites! It's been around 0.25 for the last 5 days. Ammonia is close to 1 or a little higher. I'm currently waiting to add additional ammonia until the nitrites are over 2 (following guide on here). I was going to hold off on adding more beneficial...

5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

Sounds good. Fish food would increase my ammonia some, correct?

I do not have live plants. Just silk, fake ones and a ceramic log.

5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

Would it be OK to add some if I don't see any changes soon? I was thinking the same, but it's more of a light blue than purple when I put it under a light. I had been previously told that light blue meant it was still 0? It's been at that same color for weeks, so the nitrite has not increased...

5 weeks into cycle - No nitrites or nitrates

Hey all, I began a fishless cycle 5 weeks ago in a 5 gallon tank for a new betta. I dosed it with 2 ppm of Dr. Tim's ammonia on the first day and added Seachem Stability for the first 7 days, per the instructions. After about 2 and half weeks, my ammonia had dropped to a little below 1 ppm, and...

Thanks! I added some ammonia and now it's around 3 ppm. I'll follow that guide. I think I may add some more Stability to it too.

    Ask Questions About Cycling

Thanks, so it sounds like I should add 2 ppm ammonia at this point? It's measuring closer to 0.5 ppm this morning (still no nitrites). For reference, I had been following this guide: https://fishlab.com/how-to-cycle-aquarium/

    Ask Questions About Cycling

Yes, it's a fishless cycle. I added 2 ppm ammonia from the Dr. Tim's bottle on the first day. I have not added any more since - should I? I had planned to add more once the nitrites appear. Ammonia has dropped to about 1 ppm. I also used Seachem Stability for the first 7 days but have since...

    Ask Questions About Cycling

Thank you, both. 2 weeks in to the cycle today, no nitrites and ammonia looks a little less than 1 ppm. I will keep testing and be patient. :)

    Ask Questions About Cycling

I'm a little confused at my current nitrite testing - it's a blue color that doesn't really match any of them. Is it 0 or am I reading some?

    Ask Questions About Cycling

I am 10 days into a fishless cycle for my 5 gallon tank. I added 2 ppm ammonia on the first day and dosed Seachem Stability for 7 days. I've been doing daily tests and my ammonia is now at about 1 ppm. Still no nitrites. I just wanted to confirm that I don't need to do anything else at the time...

Evaporating Water - Is it fine to add more?

Got it, thanks! Yeah, shouldn't be a problem once I have my fish in there since I plan to do weekly water changes where I'll be adding some anyways. Just don't want it to get too low during the cycling process where I don't plan to be taking any out (unless needed).

Evaporating Water - Is it fine to add more?

Hi all, I'm currently about a week in to cycling a new 5 gallon tank for a betta. The water has evaporated a decent amount to where it's not too far from my filter spout: Would it be OK to top off the tank with new water? This is my first tank in a long time and don't want to mess up the...

Sick betta not eating and laying at bottom

My betta fish that I've had nearly 3 years hasn't eaten the past 3 days, and is just laying at the bottom of the tank, looking almost dead. I did a 25% water change yesterday, but the only time he really seems to swim up is to get air. And recently it has been in very fast corkscrew like out of...

    Water Conditioner Questions

I want to start using my tap water with conditioner for my fish instead of the freshwater from my pet store that I had previously used. I currently have Aqueon water conditioner which states to use 5ml per 10 gallons. Would that mean I should add 1/2 ml to my 1 gallon pitcher in which I add the...

What Else Could I Put In My Tank?

There's so many cool fish at the fish store that I don't even know where to start! How about this, what are some fish you guys think are cool? (that would fit in my tank) Then I can go to the fish store, see if they have them, and check them out.

What Else Could I Put In My Tank?

Ok, I'll have to go to my pet store to see what exact fish they have. Though I would definitely like a fish that takes care of snails and or algae. I have quite the snail and algae problem and I would love a fish that could help me out with it but not grow too big for the tank. Any suggestions?

What Else Could I Put In My Tank?

It is 20 gallons and currently holds 2 albino corys, 2 platys, and 3 dwarf gourami's.

Why Is My Tank Getting So Dirty?

Just did a water change and removed most of the algae and washed off the plants. Also did the paper towel thing so hopefully that took care of the slimy stuff. What are some good ways to remove algae off the side? I have one of these but it's not the best-...

Why Is My Tank Getting So Dirty?

Ok, yeah I have been leaving my light on too long. And I just noticed that the crud on the side is algae, it's green.

Why Is My Tank Getting So Dirty?

I usually have my light on most of the day and then off at night.. I'm not sure what lighting I'm using, the light was already in the tank when I got it but I may be able to find it out. It looks like just brown stuff on my plants, not algae. And no, the tank is not in direct sunlight.
